Somehow my text message box changed while I was getting out of the car. It somehow added a second line to where you type and took away the emoji button on the bottom of the screen. The original screen looks like photo A and the new one is photo B. Is there any way to change it back to photo A style?

That happened to me once. Once!
As I recall, I think I was able to backspace that [2nd line space] outta there. Either that, or I just tapped around until I accidentally fixed it. And yeah, that restarting ↑ might be the ticket.

Yep, as the OP mentioned above, it's the Google Messages app -- I can tell by its appearance.
Oh yeah, see that now.
Wish we could copy & paste our google version easily.
Anyways, I've got all smart replies & suggestions & previews ....all turned off.
When some of them are on, I think my text-entering window did enlarge. Just sayin.

Just the standard pixel 7 pro messages app
When you long press the [ , ] key > tap Settings icon > Preferences ... you can turn-on a: "Show emoji switch key" which then shows a dedicated emo-key at the left end of the space bar.
Perhaps you can also find something in Settings that will tweak that text box?

Hmmm. Looks like you do have the same [ version = ], though a later release; here's mine:

. . . but saw another thread today about new updates causing the double-line text boxes. It may help to read that 'Google messages app' thread. Or one of the resident experts may be able to help you, soon. ;-)
