Hi. I have a HTC one which I bought used. It worked perfectly but after purchase discovered it had been rooted. I didn't want or need a rooted phone so followed a video guide on youtube to reset to stock. (wish I hadn't now:( )

At the moment I have got as far as the point of sending a RUU file to the phone. The first file I tried was this - OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.12-1.28.401.7_release_315849_signedp7vl8dqsvls0h1t0.zip

with this one I got the following error -

load_file: could not allocate 436983278 bytes
error: cannot load 'ruu.zip' (I renamed the file to ruu.zip)

I then tried - OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_S_HTC_Europe_2.24.401.1-1.29.401.12_P2_release_324936_signedma8j1sa3e2o09s35.zip
both downloaded from androidRUU

I had a little more success in that I got the message that it was sending the zip to the phone, but it has been stuck like that for nearly 3 hours just showing the silver HTC logo. So I guess something's gone wrong.

What should I now do - leave it longer? or should I unplug the phone? or something else?
what should I try next - is there a different RUU I should be using?

Thanks for any help

This was originally purchased as a SIM free phone in the UK

I have relocked the phone

Well I'm back into the bootloader screen on the phone - just held down power button.

So can anyone tell me where I can find the correct file to return my phone to stock or are the above files correct and I am doing something wrong?

Thanks for reply.

I am in the UK. I believe the the HTC__001 is the WWE version. Mine is a SIM free European phone.

I have, after many hours of searching and trying things now back to the point where I have a fully functional phone, but a rooted one with Android Revolution HD with TWRP installed. I would really like to put it back to stock, but need to know what file I need. I can find RUUs with the correct 1.29.401.12, but with a different radio to mine - I assume that may be the problem?

To get back to stock you'll also need to s-off the bootloader too. Can't flash stock RUU without s-off. and I'm not sure, but I think you need to relock the device before you can flash the stock RUU, but look into that, I'm not 100% sure. I see no need to go back to stock, you can get the latest and greatest OS by being rooted, and pretty much all the roms out there for the one seem very stable and can be used as daily drivers. Android Revolution being one of them.

You dont need s-off to run a RUU, You just can't use a older version then what your current firmware version is' Also if you are s-off no need to relock the bootloader i Ruu all the time and never relock, in fact i just did it last night to take the latest OTA from Sprint.

Yeah im on Sprint network here in the states and the sim is only used for the LTE 4G, If you would like to go back to stock, My suggestion would be flash a stock rooted rom that way you will be stock and have the bennifit of keeping root in case you ever change your mind and want to flash anything or install a app that requires root and have the best of both worlds. Keeping root and a custom recovery will not hurt anything. I would also recommend going s-off so in the event of a OTA you can flash just the firmware package when someone puts one together.
