I have recently been getting a lot of error messages on my S3. I cannot open my google play store. I continually get this message.

Unfortunately, the process.com.google.process.gapps has stopped.

The only option it gives me is to say "OK"

I had been having trouble with my words with friends so I disabled it ... at this point I tried to download it again ... I cannot open play store at all, blinks one sec and goes back to home screen.

I did the "clear cache"

I did the "clear data"

I shut it down and restarted... no luck

any other suggestions

Have you tampered with the phone's software lately? (Root perhaps?)
Try downloading the latest Play Store update and see if that remedies the problem.

Don't do a factory reset as the first step. That should be the last step, since it will wipe out all your data. I wish people weren't quite so quick to suggest it.

This problem has occurred for others, and there are a number of possible fixes. There are other suggestions, I think, in these threads:

If you know what you're doing it's only a matter of minutes

That depends a lot on what you have on your phone, whether you're rooted or not, what you have synced to the cloud, and what you've backed up and how.

Even if what you say WERE always true, you should tell people how to back everything up before telling them to wipe their phone and all their data. Most people don't have good backups, or know how to make good backups, and for those people following your advice could result in catastrophic loss of data.
