Help me decide if I should update

I just did a factory reset of kit kat on my nexus 7. I'm not sure if its worth upgrading to marshmallow and I would love to hear some opinions. Will marshmallow create more overhead thus reducing the performance of this tablet?

I have two 2013 N7's, and both have been totally fine with Marshmallow. I'd do the update, and then afterwards, do a cache partition wipe: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...e-nexus-7-2012-2013-cache-partition-wipe.html

I did the cache wipe before and after my current factory reset. No doubt I would do the same after I take an OTA update. As a matter of fact I will do a factory reset immediately after I update to marshmallow in addition to the cache wipe.

Battery life is greatly improved. Only trouble I had was with wifi. The update went very smoothly.

The OS is buttery smooth, especially compared to my att samsung S5 on 5.1.1.

I wouldn't go back

I totally would upgrade. I've done the same as you, stayed with 4.4.4 until Marshmallow came out, the difference is like night and day. I highly recommend it.

I really appreciate the opinions. I had a terrible experience years ago when I did the ICS update on my HTC thunderbolt. That update crippled that phone. Ever since then I simply don't update my devices unless I have a reason to.

What prompted all of this was actually buying a $35 amazon kindle 5'th gen. That tablet has worse specs all around and runs a version of fire OS that I believe is lollipop based. I noticed that with worse specs and a newer OS the kindle played "Game of War" much more smoothly. When I factory reset my Nexus 7 it made a big performance improvement and I am left wondering if I'm missing out on something running Kit Kat still.

If the OS is smoother but the games I play are slower then I definitely do not want to upgrade from Kit Kat.

My N7 has no problems with games like Asphalt 7, Riptide GP, GTA III, Goat Simulator, or Star Wars Pinball.

My N7 '13 is running great on M too, I would not hesitate to upgrade.

We have in the family all these running Marshmallow:

Nexus 4
Nexus 5
3 Nexus 6
Nexus 7 2013

None are having any problems whatsoever. All except the Nexus 4 are stock, unroofed and have been updated by ordinary OTA. Highly recommend you do the upgrade to Marshmallow. It's definitely the best version of Android ever.

Unless you have problems after upgrading I would skip clearing the cache partition or a factory reset. It's just unnecessary unless you have problems. I never clear caches or do a reset for the entire life of a device (the Nexus 4 is an exception, obviously) with no ill effects whatsoever. Don't bother.

I have no issues with my Nexus 7 2013 running Marshmallow. I did not do a cache partition wipe or factory reset on mine, since I did not have issues. I would do a cache partition and factory reset only if I had issues.

I went ahead and updated to marshmallow today. Runs fine but I really haven't critically paid attention to anything.

I noticed Google too the Samsung idea of a 2 finger pulldown menu and a one finger menu. In this case the 2 finger is the equivalent of 2 consecutive 1 finger pulls. Can you guys tell me any other tricks. I really don't feel like taking the time to actively research every nuance of this OS.
