OK Guys, I have searched for a thread of this nature but have not found one under help and support.

I have a Thunderbolt, it's rooted with Revolutionary and I am running ROM Manager, (I bought the full version of ROM Manager FYI). I have several complete backups that I have run with ROM Manager. I rooted the phone in November and it was a perfect root no issues at all.

Now, my issue is that the phone will not connect via USB to my PC runnning Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) or my laptop running Windows 7 Home (64 bit). I have installed the Sync Manager (which should have the proper USB drivers for it to connect).

I went back and uninstalled my apps one at a time to see if one might have messed up my USB Connection. I have tried all of the connections to PC under Connect to PC in Settings. I even booted the phone with it connected to see if it could see the PC in the boot manager. I have had no luck at all. Can anyone tell me if there is something stupid that I am missing?

My phone is not bricked in the literal sense, I can still make calls access the internet, get WIFI and e-mail and its 4G LTE works as well, (occationally I need to remove and replace the battery to get 4G to run if it stops). I was able to connect to my PC's with it after I rooted it. I'm just not sure when it stopped functioning normally.

I am running the phone with several an extended batteries. One is a 3500 MHZ and one is a 4500 MHZ. (I don't like to run out of Power)

The specs for my Thrunberbolt ADR6400L are:
Android verison: 2.2.1
Baseband version: 1.02.00.0103_2r
Kernal version: 206.32.21-g2447a8d
htc-kernal@and18-2 #1
Build no: 1.03.605.10 CL313761 relase keys
Software no.:1.03.605.10
Browser version:WebKit/533.1
PRI Version: 1.41_002, 1.64_002
PRL Version: 15098
ERI Version:5

Is there anyone out there that can lend me some assistance at all?
Thanks

I have also posted this issue on several other forums. so, if you think you have seen this beofre, you might have..

Thanks Again.

A few questions:

1. Are you using a computer that the phone has worked with before, or are you trying to connect for first time?
2. Do you have the HTC drivers installed?
3. Does *anything* happen when you plug the phone in (does it show a new device in the system tray or device manager)?
4. Have you tried using a different USB cable?

Paintdrinkingpete,
Thank you for your interest, to answer all of your questions:

1. Are you using a computer that the phone has worked with before, or are you trying to connect for first time? Yes
2. Do you have the HTC drivers installed? No (I never did need any in the past. If you have a link that has the windows 7 drivers to download, I will install them Pronto!)

3. Does *anything* happen when you plug the phone in (does it show a new device in the system tray or device manager)? No, I don't even hear the tone that I used to hear when I plugged it in. The Phone does charge when I connect it to my PC however)

4. Have you tried using a different USB cable? I have used two different cables that used to work with the Phone and the PC. They still both charge the phone but the PC doesn't recognize the phone as removable storage anymore.

I certainly hope that this answers your questions. If you have any questions of suggestion, I'm open to pretty much try anything at this time.

Thanks

Hmmm...that is strange. And when you plug the phone in via USB, does the phone acknowledge the USB connection? Does it show the USB icon in the status bar and/or ask you which USB mode to use (i.e. Disk Drive)?

Just trying to get an idea where the point of failure is. I'd also suggest trying a different computer or USB port, but you already said that you've tried 2 different computers anyway. I'm also going to assume that other USB devices are recognized by the computer(s) just fine?

As far as the drivers are concerned, they are included I believe with HTC sync. I hate having to install software on my computer just to view my SD Card contents...but it did work for me.

May want to try loading that if you don't already have it installed.

Does it show the USB icon in the status bar and/or ask you which USB mode to use (i.e. Disk Drive)? No the phone does not show a USB connection, nor does it show that USB Debugging is active although it is. Interesting and very good points. What files can I check for on the phone that controls that? Maybe they are corrupt

I tried it and it didn't work for me...

Well...based on what you've described, it does sound like a phone issue, not recognizing the connection (as opposed to an issue with the computer). Unfortunately that about exhausts any ideas I would have to fix it -- I'm not sure what services on the phone would control that. If I were troubleshooting, my next step would be to try and determine if it were a hardware or software issue with the phone. If rooted, I'd suggest making a backup and installing a different ROM (or re-installing your current one), but if not rooted, a factory reset would be about the only recourse. It could very well be hardware issue as well...perhaps the USB port on the phone has gone bad? (even though I'm assuming it still charges the device).

Oh yeah the phone still charges through the USB no problem..

Whenever I have tried a different ROM I can get them to install, (and I've tried many) but I run into a problem with the ROM taking and WIFI working properly, however I can never get a signal from my carrier Verizon. No signal at all 3G or 4G LTE.

Any ideas on how I can correct that? (I'm still kind of fuzzy on how to change (flash?) the radio.I think I'm running "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip". What would happen if I changed my orginal "PG05IMG.old to a ZIP file? It still resides on the flash card. What would that do?

Thanks for all of your time with this..

One last thing I would try is a different cable. I have one cable that connects to computer and one that does not although both charge fine. I'd go to a vzw store and just ask to try an old one with one of their computers (or bring your own). If it works.u just need a new cable.

First of all, what ROM or OS are you currently running?

"su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip" is most likely a superuser binary, and not a radio file. "PG05IMG.old" *might* be a radio file, but there's no way to know for sure!

Unless you're running an a pre-MR2 version of Froyo however, any radio you have should work with most of the ROMs out there.

Pete,

Where on my phone can I check the ROM version? I'm running the "Stock Revolutionary ROM" that was placed on my phone after I rooted it. I'm not sure what that is.

In the past, I have used TEAM BAMF Cubed ROM's and many others with ROM Manager. Great program! It allowed me to back out of ALL bad situations that I ran into by restoring. But As I said, I can never get the radio to work with any new ROM's, other than getting WIFI to function.

Since I'm not sure where to place the updated Radio Flash file in the phones file system, and the phone will not talk to PC which should allow me to attempt to flash it through Revolutionary or UN-Root it.

That won't work unless I change the ROM which I did and the phone still will not talk to the PC.

Confused? Yeah me too! LOL

Thanks again Pete! UDAMAN!

I had a somewhat similar situation with the Tbolt not connecting to Win7 laptop; went to the Verizon store, bought a $20 sync and charge cable. Tbolt is syncing fine now. Hope you find a simple solution soon.

The BAMF cubed ROM is a good one!

The problem is that most of the posts that had radios up have dead links now, so it's hard for me to point you in the right direction.

Ok, bear with me here...

First go here:
[RADIO] HTC Thunderbolt Radios [PG05IMG.zip] (Updated: 20 Oct 2011) - RootzWiki

These are all the radios. Be aware that if you're still running a pre-MR2 ROM, then upgrading to a post-MR2 Radio will cause data not to work (and vice versa). In other words, you probably don't want to do this until you're ready to do the ROM install. I'm not suggesting you need to do that...I'm just trying to provide info on how to update the radio if you want to do that.

The latest radios are down at the bottom of the first post, you'll probably want this one:
From the 2.11.605.3 RUU:
CDMA: 1.48.00.0906
md5: c6a5a9eee78e0f33267fa80ced3c49b8
LTE: 0.01.78.0906
md5: 6f33809cf2253c38a3c6bb970f030eee

Keep in mind you'll need to complete this process twice...once to update the CDMA (3G) radio, and once for the 4G radio.

Now, you may see the instructions at the top of that post and say to yourself, "WTF?!? How can I do this if my USB cable doesn't work???". Never fear, there are other ways to do it. the only real important thing is getting the file(s) onto your SD card, you download them right from the phone's browser if you want.

Here are some alternate instructions from another post by Adrynalyne that are more appropriate for your situation.:

How to install:

Download the zip file you want, and compare the MD5 with what is posted. Need an easy MD5 app? Look here: HashTab tool to quickly find file hash information

If the MD5 matches, put it on the base of your sdcard, and reboot to bootloader.

1. Power off device.
2. Hold down volume.
3. Press power to turn on.
4. Release power, hold in volume till at hboot.
5. It will ask to install. Follow directions.

Use these at your own risk!!!

Honestly though, do be cautious at installing radio updates. It's a very easy process, but also one that can brick your phone is done incorrectly.

I'd recommend reading the stickies on the top of this forums to familiarize yourself with the "how-to" of installing ROMs and backing up and restore apps and data before going to far forward just so can get an idea of the entire process.

Pete,

Quick update.. Last night updated my ROM to BAMF Ultimate 1.10, (sweet ROM) :). After that I updated my radio. Had me kind of worried after that. It took a few minutes for 4G to show up. As you said, I ran the HBOOT twice with the two different PG05IMG.ZIP files and still have not seen 3G yet, but, WIFI Still works great.

All of this and my phone still will not connect to my PC. However, if I can keep doing these types of things, I might not need to connect to my PC. My adapter does everything for me that I need.

Will keep you updated on my future endeavors. Like one thing I am noticing is that this ROM seems to like to install apps on it's own and I'm starting to keep notes on other small items it does.

Thanks again!

You could try disabling LTE to see if 3G is working. I can't remember if that ROM has the same menus, but it's usually something like: "Settings --> Wireless and Networks --> Radio Info". Set preferred network type to "CDMA auto (PRL)" for 3G only, and set it back to "CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto" to turn 4G LTE back on. If you don't have this in the settings menu, you can use an app like "Phone Info" to bring up those options.

As far as "Installing apps on it's own", that's a normal behavior for most ROMs. When you first setup a device on a new ROM with your Google Account, it will log into the Market (excuse me, Play Store) and begin to download and install all of your previously installed apps. That will only occur obviously if your data connection is working, which is why you may have never noticed that before.

Pete,

Right after I wrote that I dropped 4G and 3G showed up!

As far as I can tell this ROM is stable and very solid, however, I still cannot connect up to my PC. Yesterday I bought a new USB cable at a Verizon, but, no change. (Bummer..)

And thanks to you and your instructions I am running it successfully!

I really like this ROM and now I can experiment with others, which I will be doing..:)
