Guys i was in my settings a few minutes ago and i came across a feature which enabled me to open up my notifications by just tapping the screen so i enabled it and went to the homescreen to test it! Upon tapping the screen the phone started maing a beeping noise and a blue line started scrolling continously downward on the screen! I cant turn the phone off ! I only seem to be able to reboot it which doesnt help! I needto power the phone off i assume and then maybe do a hard reset??? Advice needed please

Try a soft reset by pressing and hold volume down and power buttons for at least 7 seconds, if it works normal then great, if not try this.

Try the reboot but as soon as it turns off right when it pauses to begin the boot, press and hold the same 2 buttons, volume down and power buttons, but as soon as it turns on release the power button and keep the Volume down pressed, if done right you will be booting in Safe mode, then try to undo the changes you last did and reboot normally after that.

Neither work "( The second method brings up safe mode in the bottom corner but i cannt click on it because doing so brings up the notification bar and the phone starts beeping and a blue line starts scrolling up and down :(

When you say that you can't click on it what exactly is that you are trying to click, what is triggering this?

Basically the tapping the screen anywhere results in the notification bar dropping down and then a blue line begind scrolling up and down the phone while it begins making a beeping noise! As a result i cant tap on 'safe mode'

All i did was enable a feature in the settings menu so have no idea why this happened ! Interestingly though i did update my phone to 5.1.1 a few hours ago

Well, then I'm sorry to tell you that you'll need to do a factory reset on Recovery Mode, I hope youat have a good backup su least, or just do one before, I think that if you just reboot and don't touch the screen it will allow you to at least use Smart Switch and do a Full backup.

To enter to Recovery mode do the same than before and when it power off, right before it begins to boot again press and hold, volume up, home and power buttons until you see the Android robot, then browse through the options using the Volume buttons and power button to select.

I think i already tried that. You mean hold volume down and power together and when the phone goes off, immediately switch to both volume buttons and power?

Recovery mode is different than the other 2 I told you before, safe mode and soft reset. You were pressing 2 buttons, now you will press and hold 3.

Do the steps I told you above and again, if done it right, it will take you to the recovery mode menu, once in there you'll see the factory reset option.

I have it now. Thanks for your help man! Do i HAVE to do a wipe data/ factory reset or is there any other alternatives to try??

You could try Wipe Cache Partition for giggles to see if that works. Will not erase anything on your phone except temporary cache files (used internally).

Hi Keith! Do you remember in which section of your settings you enabled that feature? There are more reports of this issue and it could be helpful if we can pin the culprit.

And more important, did you manage to fix it?

Thankfully i fixed it thanks to Eresat helping me out and following his advice but unfortunately i lost all my contacts/pictures etc although most of my important contacts are backed up and likewise most pics worth keeping had been uploaded to social media so can at least be retrieved! Still a massive annoyance but at least the phone is ok ha

Iam not 100% sure what setting i enabled but it had something to do with enabling a tap on the homescreen to expand the notification drawer and i thought "oh cool thats handy" then all sorts of panic began haha Since the reset i have tried finding the setting again but i cannot find it anywhere!

But what happened with the backup I told you about Keith? My intentions were not for you to lose that, that's why I mentioned that after doing a reboot without tapping the screen to connect to the PC and use smart switch to do a Full backup, did you try that?

I wasnt able to do a back up but i think i had smart switch disabled

The Smart Switch I'm talking about is not the app that came with the phone, it's a Windows or Mac software that you install in your PC or Mac and will allow you to do full backups, restore, Outlook sync and you can every restore bricked phones.

Anyway you already did the the factory reset, but I'd recommend you to install it and do a Full backup so in case like this you can always have something to restore from.

Look at this thread. http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s6/514380-new-smart-switch-pc-mac.html

this happened to me... i rebooted the phone first. turned it off and on. then let it die because it was almost dead. i turned it on and it was still messed up. so im freaking out over saving my pictures... and i plug it into my computer. the driver software takes a second to download and im rooting through the files trying to extract my stuff when a pop up appears to import media from the phone. so i click and download all media... but the blue line is still there after i save all my pictures [2 phones worth] so i am having to do a factory reset. just in case anyone else needs emergency back up but still has to do a hard reset

I believe the option that was bothering you is called universal switch on my Note 7. I turned it back off and everything went back to normal.

Thought I found a solution but turns out I didn't. Try pressing the home button three times..
