Take a look at the stickied posts at the top of the Tbolt rooting and ROMs subforum. There are some great guides on how to root and flash ROMs.

I think I might try to root this thing but is there any way to flash with a computer I'm so use to flashing with Odin for Samsung devices but I hate Samsung and decided to get a better device but I knew if I bricked my phone I could just flash via Odin to restore it, is there any way to do that with this phone any type of computer flash utility?
Or are you screwed when you mess up here haha?

One way to root... sticky thread that says Revolutionary... that is it... s-on = Security On, s-off = Security Off. Not familiar with Odin... CWM Recovery is the best way to flash ROM's on the Thunderbolt... also available on a Sticky thread.

Read, Learn... DO!!!

After rooting before you make any changes to your phone do a full nandroid backup using CWM. If something goes wrong, you can get back to recovery and restore your backup. Cyber Warrior's stickied post on backups and flashing ROMs is worth a careful read. Enjoy.

Well I know how to use cwm but Odin was like cwm for a computer you were able to be on stock unrooted phone put phone into download mode and flash a packed custom rom pretty much of you bricked your phone and could not boot into cwm you'd plug into the computer put it into download mode and flash a ROM or flash back to stock even if your phone wouldn't boot Samsung was unbrickable

The ThunderBolt flashing process doesn't use computer based tools. If you want to be prepared, download a stock RUU image that you can flash in hboot if you can't get into CWM for some reason. If that time ever comes just copy over the RUU to the root of your SD card and boot into hboot.

Fortunately, I've never had to do that and I've flashed dozens of ROMs since rooting my TBolt back in April. (And at that point I had only been using Android for a month.) Good luck.

I'm rooted and made a nandroid back up where would I get an RUU backup at? I was just wondering all of this cuz from flashing any Samsung device they have problems after flagging like data issues mainly and I'd always have to restore to stock firmware and send it back to get a replacement I went through 7 fascinates and 3 Droid charges haha just covering my tracks and HTC is a whole other beat to come to just trying to be safe

The stickied post on rooting/unrooting has links to a stock RUU and instructions as well.
