Help! Not always getting text message notification sounds!

Hi. On my A5 the only time I get sound with a text message alert is if I'm OUT of the conversation screen. Soon as I'm in a convo, any new messages I receive are silent. My other phone (S4) doesn't do this, I get sound with each new message. All of my sound and notification settings are correct. Does anybody know if this is due to some update, or if there is an update/fix for this problem? Thank you

Welcome to Android Central! Which messaging app are you using? If it's the stock Messaging app, I believe this is a change that occurred around the time Marshmallow was introduced (which probably explains why your S4 doesn't do this). The behavior you're describing is actually standard on Nexus phones. There are certain messaging apps that will still play a notification tone even while you're in the conversation -- like the Verizon Messages+ app, I believe.
