Android Central Question

Hi,

I just bought the new Huawei P20 lite and after doing the update required, I stopped seeing my pictures in my gallery. I have tried everything, clear cache, restart, nothing works. I take pictures and I cannot view them in my Gallery folder. Also, sometimes, some pictures cannot be viewed at all, as if they are cracked or something. I have no idea how to solve this, please can someone give me a guide for Huawei P20 lite on how to solve this problem?

I would much appreciate it.

Many thanks,
Cony

Welcome to Android Central! Is the camera saving photos to the SD card by default, or Internal Storage? If it's the SD, then does this happen if you change the default storage back to Internal?

The camera is saving photos to the SD card by default. Even when changing back to internal storage, it is still happening. I took some new pictures today and I cannot find them at all in gallery. Please heeelp.

I checked the folder and the photos are not there, why aren't they visible anymore?

I am so frustrated because these are so important to me.

Is there anything else I can do to recover them?

Ok, we need to figure out if there are a few different things going on:

1. You said that the camera app was originally saving photos to the SD card by default. SD cards can become corrupted, which can happen sometimes with a system update. This happened recently with my daughter's Honor 8. It's not supposed to happen, but still, it's been known to happen. If the card gets corrupted, some or all of the data may be lost, and there may not be much you can do about that. Go to Settings>Storage, Unmount the card, remove it, and insert it into your computer. Can the computer read these files? Backup as much as you can right now, then run chkdsk to look for bad sectors: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html. If it finds bad sectors, and the photos aren't crucial to save, then go ahead and allow chkdsk to try repairing those sectors. If the photos are really precious, then you'll have to try recovering them using 3rd party software: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...os/500142-guide-recovering-deleted-files.html

2. If the SD card is bad, I wonder if it could be causing issues with the camera app in general. Try removing the card and taking more photos. Do they still not save?

3. Can you clarify -- were you using a file manager app to look directly in the /DCIM/Camera directory, or were you using a gallery app? Make sure it's an actual file manager app.

4. It may be worth wiping the cache partition: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/huawei/huawei-p20-lite/recovery-mode/

Hi,

Thanks for trying to help me out.

I don't think the SD is the cause, it was working fine to take pictures. I think it is all happening because of the system update required. Everything went bad after that.

Should I do a factory reset? Will this fix my gallery app?

Thanks,
Cornelia

A factory reset may be worth trying, but see if wiping the cache partition does anything first (#4 in my previous post).

It's still worth testing the phone either without the SD inserted, or with a different SD card. Corrupted cards can cause all manner of strange behavior.

Hi again,

Sorry I took a break for a while as this is so stressful. I did a factory reset and a guess what, still problems with my gallery. Every picture i take today, will disappear from my gallery.

I searched for .nomedia files and deleted them, still didn't fix my problem.

I am so annoyed with this situation, I am considering returning the phone and writing a massive complaint.

Don't know what else to do. If I reboot my system, will that work?

Thanks for your patience and willingness to help me out.

Best regards,
Cony

Do you have Google photos on the phone or Google drive ?
