This is an email I sent to my Nephew who is a MAC/APPLE Guy.....
All of the questions I have for him, I am still waiting for his reply, and I found this forum.

1.) Does it annoy you that you can not watch Flash Videos on your iPhone? Or that you can not get another battery for it? I am so incredibly TORN!

2.) You know, I have the iPhone 4G 32mb Verizon iPhone. I had **3 Droids** prior, (they kept saying it is the PHONE! So I bought the iPhone.... Because of the phone dropping calls ALL THE TIME! So, the Verizon Engineer was parked out front yesterday, with a Lap top, (which btw I didn't know who it was, I thought it was a HACKER, because he had a laptop, and kept starring at our Crib) I went out and said "Uhhhmmm.... CAN I HELP YOU WITH ANYTHING" (the dogs were barking their furry heads off! Then he said who he was blah blah blah! Verizon Engineer.

3.) So he ran a bunch of tests, & came to the conclusion it is not the TOWER, or signal, it is the Phones! I called, & they wanted to send me a NEW phone, another iPhone * REFURBISHED* which My iPhone is much more expensive, so I Barked and talked them into sending the Thunderbolt 4G (which btw is a REFURBISHED or a return!) and I am reading a lot of reviews and NOW... I am even more confused! I Know the biggest issue with the Thunderbolt is the Battery life, I am always charging my iPhone anyway, at least I can purchase a few extra battery's with the TB!

4.) What do you think I should do? I was thinking Eh, I have 10 days to return the exchange, either the Thunder bolt, which btw they "were" going to send Just the phone not a battery, or backing, or a charger! Grrr, I of course talked to her and said, "Why should I accept a Thunderbolt and I would have to buy a battery, and the charger and the backing when I am sending you a MORE EXPENSIVE phone that is ONLY 4 months old!? ** I got what I wanted. **

5.) I was thinking... Keep my iPhone that I paid $300 plus ALL the accessories, for the 10 days I have to return, and monitor the dropped calls, if it doesn't fix the problem, THEN send the Thunderbolt back. Because I BOUGHT the APPLE Service Care Insurance also!!! So I would be out that also! UGH!

6.) I respect your ideas!

7.) She said, **IF.... I continue to get dropped calls, they will Let us out of our Contract, with no early term fee..... HELP! Thanks J ~

All I read is a bunch of iPhone talk... what exactly do you need help with???

Yep. That's your answer. Good luck.

I have to add... even if you have a decent signal on the street, there are no guarantees about coverage inside your house. Cell signals are designed to travel "line-of-site", meaning, no obstructions like walls, etc. If you continue to have issues inside your house but you find that you are okay outside your house, you might want to consider a [VZW Network Extender]. They work good. I have one.

My daughter has an I phone, and the rest of my family has Androids. My son and I both have the t-bolt, the wife has an X.
My wife had problems with her keyboard. She was making lots of mistakes. So we got another keyboard and she loves it.
YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITH AN I-PHONE.
If something bothers you about an I-phone, you are pretty much stuck with it.
With an Android, you can get an app for it.

That was hard to read, I have a headache. Your nephew is going to try and convince you that the Iphone is the greatest thing since sliced bread. All I can say about the Android system is it puts control in your hands and gives you options. Plus you will have a great support system here on AC should you need help.

I am unsure about your tech level. and yes your post was hard to read.

if you are knowledgeable about electronics and new tech android is going to be everything you want. if you are not and are not one to want to learn then stick with the iphone.

the thunderbolt does have issues because it is bleeding edge tech and thats just how it is. the iphone 4 (its not 4g) is not even "new" tech. has nothing new but a 4 at the end of its name.

Android and the Thunderbolt are great for those of us who are technically inclined/ or want to learn. We love customization and play with our devices and the dev communities to make our devices better.

As Im sure we are all unsure about your questions here, the simple truth is if you want a smartphone there will be issues and it really comes down to personal preference.

good luck and I hope everything works out.

Sorry for the confusion.

My DESIRE is to have more control. Which I do not have with the iPhone period. Can't buy an extra battery, can not watch Flash video's.

My Question is this... I have read the reviews and out of 3732 reviews the Thunderbolt has 4 stars.

I am NOT a Phone Tech but more familiar with computers.

Of course Battery life is an issue, but I hear you can Down Load the Task killer, to turn behind the scenes apps off? I can buy not just a regular battery, but a longer life battery which is around $55?

The one thing I have been reading about the Thunderbolt is that it continually shuts off automatically? Freezes and force closes?
Has anyone experienced these problems?

I have the Navigator, and LOVE it. It got me from St Louis to Rhode Island. I was amazed. But ...That is the app itself.

Sprint will have the HTC EVO 3D which sounds tempting, if trying one more time with Verizon the Thunderbolt. They said they would let me out of our contract.

I DO WANT to learn. I am self taught with computers, I may not know the "Technical Terms" But I taught my self, to build web sites, and things like that.

I am here because I do Want to learn, I should have wrote the FIRST post this way instead of copy/pasting the email to my nephew.

Am I sounding a bit less Ditzy and confusing? LOL

Like I said, I am wanting to Learn, I want a really GOOD phone, with fun apps, I also want one with an amazing Camera, and Video. I like to also edit pictures, upload to my FaceBook, Talk on the phone and be able to surf the web.

I know that the iPhone is Not 4G it's major hype. I hate that Apple has more control than I do. I also Like a larger screen, and being able to upload videos straight to Youtube.

Thanks ~ J

The Verizon extended battery is awesome. I get 24 hrs of use without a charge, and when I put it back on the charger it is at around 40% give or take.

I would not use a Task Killer as it is not needed, the phone will take care of this on its own.....sometimes shutting off application or phone operations can do more harm then good.

I love the control I have with the TB, ease of use......etc.

If you like to root you phone people are saying good things about that, I leave mine stock but that is just me.:)

What is to Root?

Thank You!

What do you all think About the HTC EVO 3D?
Not Sure if it is out Now or about to come out?

It would help if my questions would be addressed
About the reviews I've read, Please.

My Thunderbolt is in transit and I'll receive
On Monday. I'm excited to see the outcome.

Get the thunderbolt, you wont be sorry. Yes many of us are having reboot issues but those are SOFTWARE issues and will shortly be resolved. It's new technology and the launch software was great and the first maintenance release borked the radio and caused the reboot issue. If you buy a new phone you will probably not have MR1 software and not have the problem (it appears they may have stopped pushing it out). If by some chance you do get MR1 and have a lot of reboots then download and install the leaked MR2 update. It does not look like Verizon is gonna push that out (HTC is working on another one) but it does repair or least improve the reboot situation. I went from getting 4-10 reboots a day to one (usually at night) and now I am at just over 97hrs of up-time (4 days).

Make absolutely sure that Spring has solid service where you go. Many of their roaming agreements are expiring (they were voice only anyway) and may people are complaining about declining coverage. 3D is a gimmick anyway. More often than not when Sprint gets a nice phone VZW gets an improved version in 6-9 months (e.g. HTC Evo (Thunderbolt), HTC Hero (Droid Eris), Palm Pre (Pre Plus)).

Sometimes? Almost always. If it is meant to be running it will just turn itself back on again and if it does not then widgets don't update, data does not sync in the background like it is meant to, etc. And in the rare case where you have a rogue task/app running you can just force stop it under Application Management.

What is to Root?

Basically it is jailbreaking on steroids. However, unlike the iPhone where a power user really has to do it to take full advantage of their phone, only the most advanced users really NEED to root their Androd devices. It's not recommended for the novice user. Jerry wrote a good editorial about that a little over a month ago.

evo 3d is a nice device....BUT... its on sprint. and unless you live in one of the few good sprint covered cities and can handle the wiimax 4g(?) speeds (not that great) vzw lte is a bit better..but im bias :p

+1. I think that you would really like the Thunderbolt. As VZWRocks said, the problems that some people are having are from software issues that will be resolved with software updates.

Thank You All so very Much!
Fed~EX says tomorrow is the delivery day. Looking forward to playing around with it.

Does it have the feature "Speak and it turns to a text?" THAT is one of the Apps I totally MISS!

Although, you REALLLLLY have to check what your talk/text interpreted!! I've been a bit embarrassed at times, GOOD THING I was able to Delete before anyone saw it on my Facebook Wall, Except those who get email notifications first! UGH!! ha ha ha ~~> Looking forward to getting the Thunderbolt, and playing around on it.

I may have some Questions, although, I like to figure things out. THANK YOU! ;)

Well I received The Thunderbolt and Know for a fact, I am going to have to purchase a MUCH better Battery! What do you suggest? & Thank You! ;-)
