Hello All,
I have been lookng at the Acer 500 Tablet with great interest since the Toshiba tablet seems to be in limbo or moved back a number of months ( if this is not accurate please let me know). I have read in many reviews that the Acer is great except for playing large video files. So my questions are:
1. Can the Acer play large video files?

2. Does the recent firmware upgrade correct the video problem?

3. Is the video issue a down load issue a la You Tube or are there issues with copying large video files to the tablet.

I would like to get a the tablet this weekend as my Name Day is approaching on Monday. Any light that can be spread on these issues is greatly appreciated. Thank you community for all of your help.

Best Regards

Where did you read about the large video file issue? What types of files are you looking to play? I'll download some and research the issue and hopefully this will help your decision.

Regarding large video files (mainly HD files), I did run into problems. Firstly, you can't copy a file larger than 2Gb from the USB thumbdrive to the A500 direct. I have to use a PC to do that. The Moboplayer will not play the larger than 2Gb video file, but the stock video player will. Another peculiar thing is that when I have files larger than 2Gb residing in my A500, I can't install or update any apps, it just failed for no reason until I deleted those large files.

Did you try to use soft-decoding for the file in Moboplayer? Did you download the ARMv7 codecs for it? it's a separate program in the market that you have to download for Moboplayer.

I'm trying to find a suitable video file >2GB so I can test this. If anyone has a link of one, please PM it to me.

I'll let you know of my findings.

Moboplayer played a 4GB+ file and I was able to jump around without issue. Unfortunately, the audio track is AC3. It does not appear that Moboplayer supports AC3.

Yeah...codec pack was installed when i was testing AC3. Had no problem playing normal AAC along with mp4 video on a file the OS reported as 2.35 GB(2,522,477,648) though so I am pretty sure Moboplayer has no file size limitations as mentioned.

How about softdecoding? Maybe that will fix the sound issues? I've had to use that when I had audio/video sync issues. Just trying to throw out ideas. :)

Not a big deal...I used AC3 on that file as part of another experiment utilizing my home theater system. Normal audio is AAC at a bitrate of 96. I did try playing the 2.35 GB video with soft-decoding set and the video wouldn't play.
