I've successfully used software called R-Studio data recovery to recover data off of drives that were formatted . As long as the phone will connect to the computer, it should work. I'm an IT analyst and to give you a heads up, if the phone was encrypted, this software will not work. The more you use the phone, the more you overwrite the sectors in memory.

The software is about $80 unlock it so it can recover all the data.
