Help using sound meter on my S5

I downloaded a sound meter app for my phone. So far been pretty happy with it. Last night I helped a buddy of mine download the exact same app but on his S3. We were at a basketball game and his meter constantly kept show about 10 DB's higher than mine. I know these meters are not that accurate but wondering if there is a way to adjust the sound level. I have access to a real meter to check it with.

The microphone in the S3 may be different than the one in the S5. A study by NIOSH on sound measurement apps showed that Android apps are not as accurate as iOS apps, so it's not the app as much as there are so much differences between phones and the type of microphone used in each phone, not to mention that apps need to be calibrated, not all apps are created equal.
