I seem to be having trouble obtaining a root terminal with the adb shell.
I followed the instruction for rooting the phone and it appears to have worked because I received a root terminal before when I first rooted it. I closed the terminal and rebooted and installed Superuser and an app that required a rooted phone. The app works so the phone appears to be rooted but my problem occurs when I attempt to start another root adb shell to install a recovery image. I use adb shell and get the $ prompt. I then run su and get permission denied running both su and /system/bin/su. I tried busybox su and got No such user root. What am I doing wrong?

did you follow all the steps to get perm. root?

(after you run gingerbreak, it may show the # but at that point you are not permanently rooted

*13 steps*

Followed every step. Even checked to make sure the the permissions got changed on su and busybox.
The permissions should be -rwxr-xr-x right?

reboot your phone, then go through all the steps again.

Its always good to re-read through the thread (only 7 pages) but to save time, you could only read page 1 and page 6

(use copy/paste when following the directions, also make sure there are no extra spaces

***post any errors you get***

also best to post in the rooting thread if having rooting problems

Went through the root process again all the way through and still having the problem.
When i make a new adb shell I can't su.
running su returns Permission denied still

When you type su does it say permission denied instantly or does it hold for a couple seconds then denys you?

I had this same issue - and as DroidXcon asks "Do you have the super user app installed", this was the key to fix my issue.

If you use Z4root or a one click root the super user app installed during this does not work with ADB. You have to go to the market and update/install the superuser app again.

Then when you type su in adb - you will then see the prompt to allow it on your phone.

Ryan.
