Ok So i have a rooted Evo with the most recent htc update, and i have been wanting to flash the new cyanogen rom.

I go into recovery and when i click on sd update.zip i get an error

E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted.

I figure out through this thread over at xda that im in one of 4 states

[Rooting] Handy table of "What to do next" to get to fully rooted 1.47.651.1 - xda-developers

I'm in 3-6 which according to the thread means i need to Follow the instructions in that post for toast2, but stop after the reboot following the flash of the PC36IMG.zip.

So now I'm trying to run some of the commands like

"./adb shell
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
chmod 0755 /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img"

but i just keep getting permission errors "cannot create /data/flash_image: permission denied" on my mac.

I been at this for days and searched all over and I would love any suggestions on what i should to be able to flash a Rom.

I dont have Windows so i cant try simple root, and i thought unrevoked was just to give us temporary root to use apps like tether? Is there a way to flash roms with a newer version?

Yea that worked but now the Rom keeps failing to install lol great back to the search box. It's never east is it.
