Help with Hangouts

I've tried to use hangouts and after typing two words it freezes and I get an error message and it closes. I've deleted the app and reinstalled. Still no luck. I deleted the messaging app and tried and still no luck. Suggestions?

Have you tried clearing the cache on your phone? It might help.

Clearing cache worked. Thank you. It doesn't work if a disable the messaging app. I turned off notifications on messaging and so far so good.

I am liking it better than the messaging app so far. At least there is a selection of emoticons. It's a new learn curve at every turn. I was a blackberry addict until three months ago. The DROID Maxx is amazing. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
