help with lock screen and security

Hi. Just wanted some help. When I have locked my nexus with the power button, and want to unlock it again by entering my pattern. I am able to turn the phone off without unlocking the handset. Just wondered if this was correct? Or if its a security issue? Thanks

Its not a bug or anything thats how the OS is ...only concern for that is if someone steals it and you have a locked bootloader they may be able to wipe everything .
