i'm semi new to android and not the most tech savvy. i bought my s4 off craigslist. it is either rooted or has a custom rom (don't really know the difference). theres an update that keeps coming up in my notifications but it wont let me update it...any suggestions on how i can update?

First thing you can check to verify if its rooted is look in your app drawer and see if there is a SuperUser or SuperSU app which basically means the device is rooted.

Also the other way to check is to attempt to boot into recovery and see what comes up.

1. Stock recovery (usually very obvious and only a few simple options. If I remember correctly a black screen with BLUE text)
2. Custom recovery like TWRP or CWM will boot up. This will be completely obvious if its installed because it will says TWRP or CWM and have a menu with many options.

From a completely powered off state, press and hold Volume Up + Home Button + Power button together for a few seconds and it should boot you into one of the following above.

thanks for the help! SuperSU is installed. TWRP came up when I rebooted...do you know how to accept the software update?
