i cant get my device recognized by adb...
when i run
adb devices
mine isnt listed..
i have the usb drivers installed and i have usb debugging enabled...
what am i doing wrong?

its not the port.. i can mount and move files.. but nothing from the command prompt.. i am unmounted when i try

now i can get it to recognize the device it still sometimes says the device is offline.. the one-click wont work.. i dont really even know enough to figure out why... very discouraging

Try reloading the samsung drivers- they are in the xda epic development forum. I had problems with the "official" ones off the samsung site.

i had this issue a few times as well. Make sure your sdk is located in your c drive or some large generic directory. Sometimes it does not play nice with permissions if you have it else where.

Also make sure you have the latest drivers for the epic from samsungs web site.

My sdk is located in c:\android_stuff\ I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers multiple times both from samsung and xda...

huh....

to be honest, the only thing that would affect the adb devices from not picking up your phone is either the sdk, or the drivers.

(assuming debugging is checked on your phone)

Just because you can mount the sd card using the front ports on a tower, doesn't mean there is enough juice for adb. Use a different port. Use the original Samsung cable. If this fails, try mounting the sd card and try adb then.

the usb port, or the cord i was using, must have been it... as soon as i plugged it into the back of the computer using the samsung cord it worked just fine.. thanks for all the help!
