Help with rooting.

Take a look at superclean rom. Prolly best place to start. There is a sticky with a list of roms. There is also stickies on how to do all that stuff. If you have windows 7 there is a text to speech program that will read you what you highlight. Maybe that will help to hear the instructions.

Ok Cool I did put that backup thing on here and I guess I backed up every thing on my phone with it but you have to pay for it to freeze apps right.

Not sure about the freezing thing. Pretty usless if you ask me. If you flash a clean rom there won't be much to freeze. You will install the stuff you want and delete the stuff you don't. The only reason you would need to back to stock would be for a warranty. In that case you would just flash back to stock with Odin and be done with. If there are apps on your phone with data you dont want to lose just back those up for now. Flash a new rom and setup your phone the way you like it and the do the tb.

was looking at the how to guide on rooting, and was just curious out of the 3 methods, is not more preferred over the others? like does one work better or gives you access? mainly i wanna know if i should do the easy beginner one rather than the more intricate advance one.

the advanced one is actually the easiest , comes down to your comfort level... it also kills two birds with one stone. gives you clockwork mod and root in one shot

Try them all. Do a back up after the first. Flash back to stock and move to the next. That's the best way to learn.

Yes titanium is a good backup , but you should also do a backup from clockwork, that will take you exactly to the state you are now if something were to happen,,,,,,to do this, from clockwork recovery scroll to backup/restore>backup>yes>and wait for it to finish, thats is a must do.

after you do a titanium and that backup, download the rom you want to your sdcard, go into clockwork recovery, wipe data and cache partition then go to install zip from sdcard>choose zip to install>then pick the rom from the list of whats on your sdcard>yes> then wait for it to be done and go back in the menus and reboot...first boot will take a couple mins while it sets up

sorry i didnt get back to ya, i was haveing a fight with my phone. i tink i won, but im beat up pretty bad.

ok, titanium back up is great for you apps and texts and stuff. personaly i would wait to run it until you get your clean rom setup and just take the loss of stuff. that way you dont have to worry checking and unchecking apps and stuff. get it perfect, and back up the perfect setup. just my humble opinoin.

But would it not be easyer for me to back up swype and a few others i use all the time like with out swype i dont know if i could text again. And the clean roms like all my other stuff will work like phone calls text, Cam all of it works right?

It all will work it will have swipe on it it just doesn't come with a lot of the Verizon c***. But it makes you feel better then by all means back up a couple of apps that you like you don't want to loose. No one was ever sorry they backed up too much.

droid x con is right make sure you doing and back up in cwm. Once you get your new rom working the way you want to then you can do a titanium backup. and then do another back up in clockwork mod. at that point you can delete your original back up and use the one that you just set up as you're working back up.

ok cool deal cant wait to get home tonight to try some of this stuff dumb job getting in the way of me playing with my phone lol.

ssooo one isnt like better than the other though? as for comfort lvl, i havent particularly tried it, but messed with other stuff enough to know how to follow amazing how-to ;) and i guess my biggest concern, well more of being lazy than concern is the hope that 2.2 comes out sooner than later cause if updating will require is to go back to stock. cause if so, i will most likely wait. just to lazy to root, take back and root again. cause i know i was reading somewhere that one of the admin guys just renamed most of the apps he didnt want and moved them to the sd. and for updates i believe he hadda name them back and everything. but if not and i can get the 2.2 update w/ a rooted, then hellsbells, may just go ahead and give it a try,and try out some of the different roms/kernels.

Fastest and easiest way to get back to stock is to download DI01 file , connect your phone, insert the DI01 file into odin and click start. takes about 5mins (assuming you took all proper steps things should go smooting....http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ckworkmod-recovery-return-stock-use-odin.html

I recommend CWM+root combo,,, my directions are pretty thorough, and soon ill have a video walk along
