Hello, I have recently upgraded from htc evo to Galaxy s4 i9500 sph L720 and for the most part, im happy with the change.. but 2 things really bother me... 1, the HTC would play any video i threw at it for the most part.. but the S4, even after converting to the required format, bitrate, and resolution, will freeze after a few minutes. in fact the video playing capability of the phone is so poor, i dont even use it (Netflix plays ok but any downloaded video,,, its worthless) even after trying numerous diffrent players, no change.. 2, no way to change the water drip default sound when using keypad to dial? cant get normal phone keytones??? Im thinking of rooting the phone to see if that takes care of the issue, but wanted to get some input first.
any insight would be much appreciated

I don't have that issue on mine at all sounds like a factory reset might help you out. I had issues with a few stock apps when I first purchased my S4 and the reset did the trick.

Are you playing the video from the SD card or internal storage? If it's from the SD card, it might need a reformat or replacing. Put a video directly on the internal storage and see if the problem is still there.

and here is another quirky addition.. Ive finally managed to find the right converter, and the correct (or so it seems) parameters for converting videos for this S4 .. The thing is, it will play the video no problem, .. a few hours later.. it wont!.. same damn video, didnt move it, or mess with it in any way, just went to show my son that i got it working, and ... It didnt work.. the thumnail for the video no longer shows the first frame, now its the generic mp4 /mp3 icon..So i tried a few more... same thing. tired of doing hard resets.. this is one quirky phone. so far im not impressed for the money.
