Here's how to spot a fake Note 3! (For those looking at online marketplaces or unofficial retailers)

Another big difference that you notice before buying a phone the thickness of the battery ... ;)

Looks like the fake is substantially smaller

Does anyone still have one of these fakes on hand? Just out of curiosity, what happens when you try to verify the esn/imei? I nearly purchased a Note 3 from a regional classified ad. When I requested the esn/imei number, they at first said they 'didn't know what it was or where to find it'. When I told them where to find it, they responded back with a number, which while it did technically clear, showed up as some random junk prepaid-like dumbphone. So I was just curious if indeed this guy had a stolen/blacklisted Note 3 and was trying to pass it off with another number from a junk phone he had lying around; or if he actually had one of these fakes and didn't know it, whose esn/imei number had been cloned from a valid phone....

Sounds like he was providing an alternate number. I would ask for a picture of the Note 3 with the number showing. This information can be found within the settings so there's no reason he can't provide it.

It may be best to avoid any further contact and walk away though.

Oh no, this happened a few weeks back and I didn't go through with it after I ran the ESN check. I was just wondering what the fake Note 3's check out as when you run their ESN/IMEI through a verifer.

I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure, but when I had the clone and tried to activate it at a service provider, I was told that the phone was supposedly already activated somewhere in Florida(I live in the north). I wasn't told whether it was another Note 3 or a different phone altogether(although at the time I had assumed that the phone I had was simply under a contract I was not aware of). In hindsight, the IMEI probably belonged to a different phone.

Hi,
I purchased a Note 3 fake/clone in Bangkok (deliberately, I knew what I was getting). It works well for all the basic functions. It is great for phone, SMS, wireless internet browsing, Skype works fine too. It was unlocked and worked fine after inserting my SIM for me here in Australia.
Some other differences I've noticed between the genuine and fakes.......
1) the S-Pen as mentioned previously. The fake is a solid piece of plastic with no clickable button on the side. It does work okay on the screen, clicking icons or on the keyboard. it also works in S Memo. I tried a real S-pen from a work colleague on my fake and it did not work at all on the fake.
2) the fake Note 3 doesn't have the full run of Apps as standard. I am missing S-Note, S-Voice to name a few. It has S-memo which is sufficient but missing extra features found in S-Note.

There is also an app you can download in google play called genuine galaxy and this will tell you if your phone is real or fake! And it works great because I tried on mine, it said "congratulations, you have a real note 3" then I tried on my friends, which we knew herd was fake and it said on her "sorry this is not a genuine galaxy note 3" so it works guys, try it.

Thanks a lot for the precious information! I'm gonna take care of all these pointers while buying my next phone.

So is my Galaxy Note 3 real? It appears to me it is but here is why I have doubts:

I bought my N3 on Swappa. The guy at AT&T told me it looked like a refurb, which is fine by me. However, the S-pen acts funny. It will bring up air command when I take it out of the holding spot. It also gives me the circle when I hover but if I want air command again after the pen is already out I have to hover and click like 10 times to get air command to pop up. I thought the tip was just going bad but when I tried to pull it out to replace it the thing would not pull out (even though it's wiggly like it should be able to come out) and literally crumbled to the point it's now flush with the end and I've ordered a new one from Samsung. The button does click but the pen says China near the top (teeny tiny letters near the metal band-- too small to get a pic with my iPhone or N3).

It also says Made in China on my battery. When I tried to register the phone on the Samsung website it says the IMEI is not recognized (because it's a fake or refurb?) but the Swappa website gives me a "white flag" and my AT&T account shows a picture of a Note 3 now instead of my iPhone 5s so I'm guessing AT&T recognizes it.

What do you think? Is it real but I just have a ****ty S-pen?

I'm going to try to attach images from Genuine Galaxy and also Spec Device.

Excellent detailed write up! Thank you for sharing -

Question - how can I tell if my wife is counterfeit?

U must have already use "it" many time and still not know if it is fake ???!!! hahahahaah
If that is the case why care if "it" is counterfeit, just continue use it !!!!! hahahahaa

I explain all the differences I found halfway through my post. If you want a quick verification, check the S Pen. I believe all the counterfeits' buttons are only carved on so you will not be able to hear it "click" when you press it.

If you're not satisfied by that, read the rest of the differences on the first post.

EDIT: I just got the joke. Lol

Tbh, it sounds like your pen is defective. The specs you posted match up to a real phone so that's a little odd. As for air command popping up when you take the pen out, that's normative.

Let me know how the new pen works when you receive it.

Yes the new pen works like a charm. It was a bad pen.
