Hi Android Central!
I'm finally changing to Android after being with Windows Phone for 3 years.
I've been more and more frustrated with the platform, and I have given enough time for MS to fix the problem WP has.
I'm getting a Sony Xperia Z1 either this week or the next one, as the phone design is pretty similar to the Lumia 920 (my current phone) and I love the design of that phone.

Since I'm new to the Android platform, can anyone give me any tips or things I should know?
I've investigated quite a bit for months, and I cant wait to root and customize my phone.
But does anyone know of a good podcast player? On WP its near impossible to put a podcast from the PC to the phone, and I'm wondering if its better on Android.

Thanks for your time guys!

Welcome to the forums.

Be sure to turn off Auto update in your Play Store App settings. Leaving it on can drain your battery, and if your battery is too low and several apps start updating at the same time, it could have a real adverse effect on your operating system.

Here's the path to that setting:
Tap play store > menu > my apps > settings > auto update (these are software updates, not updates to the information that you might enter in the app, BTW).

Have a great weekend!

Hey I am also a recent convert to Android from 3years with Windows phone. I will be honest, I like the ease and use of Windows Phone, the Nokia cameras are the best of the best, and also most of what you can do on Android, Windows Phone does more efficient. Those smoked by Windows Phone campaign are no joke. There are small things that Google/manufacture skin misses.

On the flip side, the apps and how much you can customize things are the best. I suggest downloading the swift keyboard, I find it to be the best.

I assume you are using Outlook.com to manage your calendar, contacts and email. Set up your email as exchange. I highly suggest that you don't download the Outlook.com app. It is horrible and you can not edit Contacts.

If T-Mobile comes out with a flagship windows phone I might switch back because I really do like Windows Phone and the simplicity of it. I am enjoying my LG G2 in the mean time and 6 months from now I will probably get the next Android with the jump plan.

What email app do you recommend, then?
And what do you mean by "set your email as exchange"
