I'm a long-time Windows developer and writer with 30+ books in print and more than 1.5 million English copies sold. I'm a Microsoft Most Valued Professional (MVP) specializing in Windows Azure and cloud computing, and the curator of the OakLeaf Systems blog.

I became acquainted with and addicted to the Android OS when I purchased a Nexus 7 tablet last year. I also have a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and my wife has a Surface RT.

I'm planning on developing Android applications with the Windows Azure Mobile Services recent support for Android clients. Stay tuned for
articles tagged "Azure."

I've also been a digital video junkie since Sony introduced the first MiniDV camcorders with FireWire connectors. I'm now investigating various low-cost Android 4.1+ MiniPCs (a.k.a. PCSticks and TVBoxes) for streaming video capture and live HTDV timesharing.

Cheers,

Welcome! That sounds very interesting. Does this mean Android applications will be able to run easily on the Surface, or are there still compatibility issues?

Hi, B,

I don't believe there's even a miniscule chance that Microsoft will provide the capability to run Android apps on Surface tablets, although a third-party might be able to produce an Android container for the Surface Pro.

I can't think of any business reason for enabling Android on Windows machines. Current platforms, ranging from MiniPCs to cellphones and tablets, appear more economical than their Windows counterparts.
