You guys are soooo gonna flame me... But I'm back on VaelPak. Can't do CM. Had enough force closes to annoy me. The visual goodies d3x gave me were great, but still didn't do it for me. CM is a great rom but it's just not for me. I have a Nand backup though. Call me a fanboy if you want but VaelPak is still my favorite rom. Myn a close second and CM third. Now if only I can get the damn CM camera app i'll be really good to go..

Lol, CM's camera app is one of the reasons that I switched to Myn. I hate the interface of that thing.

I got more forced closes with stock ROM's than I did with CM. It's like different Evo's have a mind of their own.

Different EVO's DEFINITELY have mind's of their own. That's why some can overclock higher than others.

Ya tell me about it... My last Evo could o/c to 1190 with NOOOOO problems. I'm talking Max 1190 and min 1190 with it set to performance lol.. This one just loses it's mind at 1190 lol. Wont lock up but I swear I feel like im looking at some psychedelic hippy ****. Starts doing all types of crazy stuff lol

Another example is that ALL Snap kernels cause my Evo to have horrible screen tearing... When I looked into it I am about the only one who had this issue.

Well its a lazy Saturday and I read through this entire thread...now im lookin to feed the addiction and flash another rom. I got my evo about a week ago to replace an unimpressive epic 4g. A faster GPU and prettier screen simply cant touch a good dev community.

Rooted within a few days with unrevoked 3.21 (yea yea, I know) and tried Vaelpak first. I liked it a lot, so clean and quick. The only odd thing I found was a lot of the sense stuff still included in the rom? I kept getting prompts to select vanilla stuff or sense stuff. Like the dialer, music selector, contacts, etc. Im sure theres a way to remove those sense things but still being a bit of a noob im not sure how? It just seemed odd to me being a "no sense" rom. Its still in the running for my daily driver.

I tried myn next and I am really liking it despite the sense. It seems nearly as smooth as vael but I love the look, fonts, and especially the transition animations. Battery life isnt quite as good as vael/stock for some reason though. Also in the running for DD.

I guess my next step is to try and tackle CM! I know I have to downgrade the hboot first right? Im not sure ive seen an exact guide for that yet? Also, will I have problems flashing back to vael or myn with the downgraded hboot after that or do I have to go back to most recent?

I think thats all I got for now. You guys seem more tolerant to noob questions than other forums so hopefully I'm not a buzzkill on the thread Loving this phone and loving my new rom flashing hobby/addiction!

With VaelPak, when you're prompted to pick a dialer or anything else..

Tap "use by default for this action" before you pick one and it'll now be your default. I'm not sure if removing it completely would cause issues, or if he just keeps it in there as an option for people to use. But ya just hit the yse by default for anything you get prompted and you wont be prompted anymore. You can either do a Nandroid backup of each ROM you're trying so that way whenever you do have your dd picked you don't have to set everything back up, you can just do a Nandroid restore of the ROM you pick and that's it. Or, just wipe everything and flash the ROM of your choosing if you decide to go back to Myn's or VaelPak... Everyone here knows my favorite is VaelPak. Some cool stuff coming up in the next update, just giving you a heads up. CM is pretty damn awesome. But it's not for everyone. It's definitely the fastest and smoothest ROM out there. but it's not without its issue. I say DEFINITELY give it a try. Anyone that tries new roms HAS to try it at least once lol

Ya, I set them as default, I was just curious if they were removable. Im kinda minimalist/picky about clutter and having multiple phones and contact programs in the app drawer bugs me I have nandroid backups of stock rooted, vael, and myn Im just curious if I downgrade the hboot to flash CM if those backups will still restore correctly or if I have to switch between hboots too.

Im tryin my best to take things slow I feel pretty silly for jumping into unrevoked so quickly even though I havent had any problems. I kinda wanna go all the way back and do it the right way. I currently have the newest .97 hboot that came with the new phone. Thanks guys!

Your going to want the eng hboot needed for cm6 anyways, theres no downside to it and I think you will be able to still use your back ups.

ENG bootloader (0.76 needed for CM6) extended fastboot commands. - xda-developers

Dont be intimidated by it.

Well, after a lot more reading I discovered that the new nightly builds get rid of the hboot restriction, so issue averted I guess. I was able to flash one with no issues and I am almost all set back up again. You guys arent kidding, its fast. I mean not by much, but navigating through the OS just seems faster. I guess ill give this one a few days and maybe try switching up some kernels with these 3 roms before I decide on a DD

It's really annoying reading someone completely bash the phone and Android meanwhile everything their saying is either wrong, misinformed or absolutely ridiculous (like complaining about spell check?? I SWEAR I'm SOOO tempted to make a thread titled "This is why you don't use unrEVOked" and just have a link to every single thread and post from the last week from people that used unrEVOked and are having problems.. THEN reserve the second post so I can update with a new LMFAO for every new updated post/thread that I add on the OP... Don't think it'll work too well with the Mods though lol.. At least the second post haha. I think the first post is

1. Punch myself in the balls.
2. Kick myself in the balls.

I didn't document my experience here but mine was pretty close. And it does seem like every two weeks or so we get a flood of n00b questions from people that don't search or read first.
