Hide Navigation Bar Buttons/Immersive Mode?

In the Android 8.1 update they made the nav dim when not being used as well as changing color depending on app. This should help.

I just read a great tip over on Reddit r/GooglePixel from user u/scgf01 about an app called Navigation Bar Hider that I would recommend here. I just installed it and it works great! It's much more like LG and Samsung's system setting to hide the navigation bar as it allows you to specify which apps to hide the bar and then it just simply does so when you open those apps. No toggling and seems to be quite reliable. Navigation bar reappears when you close the app or with a simple swipe up from the bottom when in an app with the bar hidden. Very small app and it doesn't require any special permissions, which is comforting. It does require you to connect your Pixel to a computer to issue a single ADB command, which is a little more complicated than just installing the app, but at least it doesn't require root. Great app!

Just tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.immersive, no root required, seems to work ok, and not disabling any other functions I've found yet.

HUGE amount more real estate for browsing! That little red bar is a 'trigger' for it, though you can also just swipe top/bottom of screen. Looks like the paid version allows you to make it invisible as well as a number of other options.

Thanks for posting this. The message that comes up says, "Please restore navigation bar whenever you need to use keyboard!"

How do you restore the keyboard and is this something you have to do every time?

Thanks!
