Hiding Sensitive Notifications

I have a Moto G 4G and just upgraded from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1 the other night.

There's a few things I don't like that I'll have to get used to such as:
swipe to unlock, it specifically has to be upwards now rather than diagonal which is the natural way I hold my phone
the weird profile picture in the corner, no one else is going to use my phone that they need their own profile, just odd
the percentage by the battery has gone
network provider at the bottom and top left of the lock screen

But I really don't like the message/email banner that appears on the lock screen. I've looked around for a solution and I've seen people setting it so that only apps that you mark as sensitive get hidden, but I can't find that option. Plus the network name in the corner of the lock screen prevents any icons from showing so you can only rely on the light if you don't hear the noise.

At work I like to be able to take my phone from my pocket, press the power button to show the lock screen and quickly be able to see if I have an email or text because the notification is in the corner. I don't want the banner so anyone can read my stuff

You can hide sensitive information going to settings - sound & notifications - when device is locked. In the same section you can change how specific apps notifications behave if you tap on "app notification".

That's strange. Maybe your carrier changed that. Which one is yours?

If you don't find that option you could try this. Go to settings and tap on the search icon top right. Write "device" and different options should come up. When device is locked should be one of them.

just looked around and I have the option to hide sensitive notifications and choose which apps are sensitive but only if I put a pin on my phone. I've never had a pin on my phone as I can too easily forget it and I just like to swipe to unlock. I'm guessing there's no way around this?

Maybe you should consider using an unlock pattern then. That's easier to remember. To avoid the need to unlock constantly you can use the Smart lock options and a longer time for the phone to lock after sleep. My favorite is "on body detection" and I think you'll find this option very helpful as well.

Just remember, with just swipe to unlock anyone can have access not only to your sensitive notifications but to your whole phone.

I don't see anything for 'on body detection' but I'll try the pattern for now. Though it's still annoying that you have to swipe up before you have to put the pattern in. And I still get the banner notification but it just says my email address and that I have a message. I'd rather it just be an icon in the corner but I can't seem to be able to remove the network name.

My phone is never left unattended and even if it was I know no-one would look through it. I'm thinking more along the lines of if it's on the table and the banner pops up with half the message on it, or you're showing someone something and it pops up yknow

I just found it, activated it, tried it - but it didn't work. This is my first time hearing about it and from what I understand the phone stays unlocked (i.e no pin/password/pattern needed) while it's in your hand or your pocket. But as soon as you set it down it gets locked, I'm guessing in case anyone else picks it up.

It just seems backwards to me, my first thought is I'd need it to be locked in my pocket or my hand. I could be holding it while holding other things and accidentally call someone, same goes for **** dialing lol
