Hiding the onscreen keyboard when an external/bluetooth keyboard is added.

I've connected an external (ESync) keyboard via Bluetooth to my Samsung S7. However, when I start using it in say Word, the onscreen keyboard pops up. Even if I dismiss the onscreen keyboard using the Back button, as soon as I type on the external keyboard, the onscreen keyboard pops up again!

How do I (a) have the onscreen keyboard automatically hidden when an external keyboard is detected and (b) how do I _manually_ hide the onscreen keyboard (I saw mention of a swipe command but this doesn't work for me).

That depends entirely on the keyboard app that you're using and if the external keyboard is properly registering itself as an external input source. I know that SwiftKey does have the option for that (either show or hide the on-screen kb or just show suggestions or nothing at all). I don't see any option for that on the Samsung stock keyboard, though.

Look for a little keyboard icon on the lower right of the keyboard. If it's not there, go to Settings and search keyboard. You should be able to select the external keyboard. Whether that will automatically switch back to the internal keyboard when the external one disconnects, I can't say.
