High Data Usage

Hi, My wife's S8+ used 0.703 GB in a 10 hour period. I talked to Verizon and they said it's because she must have had a large number of apps running in background. I looked at her phone and she didn't have open any streaming apps. She had open FB, news app, Hearts, and a few others. Never had anything like this to happen before. Does this data usage seem normal? Thanks.

Re: High Data Useage

Welcome to the forum. FB and new apps will typically download data in the background so it's there when you open the app. FB notorious for this. You can go to Settings, Apps Manager and see what apps are using for data. Battery is also an indicator, lots of battery may equal lots of data. Also, some times apps just go nuts and get into a data binge for no obvious reason. That being said, yeah, I think that usage is abnormal. You can set alarms for data usage, suggest you look into that.

While your checking Facebook app settings, make sure the video auto play is not on, Facebook has defaulted to be on, you have to go in and turn it off.

Re: High Data Useage

My Verizon S8 + sucks through much more data than my old iPhone 7 plus and that's a fact.

Re: High Data Useage

Verizon had similar issues in the past with several new devices at launch. The iPhone 5 was one that had complaints of high data usage.

Some apps like Google Play Newsstand have background updating as the default. Unless you want constant notifications, you can turn this setting off. For example, I have various news apps and even the email app set to update manually just to minimize data and battery usage.
