Hitting the Road

Gunslinger is correct.. This unit is not falling off unless YOU install it wrong, or on really dirty surface.

The suction cup is a 3" unit, and once you push it on, there is a lever to push that adds even more suction. It is not going anywhere. It made the trip up the east coast without a problem... Orlando to NY, not one problem with it staying put.

Mounting positions.. I tried multiple positions for it. When being used by my wife to watch movies and such, I had it mounted on the top Right corner of the windshield. This position is well outside my usable view, so unles I looked over there, I did not notice it at all.

GPS use.. I did use this as a GPS unit for a portion of the trip, and I mounted it in the middle of the windshield as low as I could. FoV (Field of View) was not bothered as much as I thought it would be. After 5 minutes you get used to it being there and it is not an issue.

Input: while mounted on the windshield, it is awkward to type anything, I found that the one finger technique worked best, but if you have a bluetooth KB, use it.

Misc: I tried recording video while driving, but the mount bracket got in the way, so that was not an option. I will look at it more to see if there is a work around, but this option is not really important to me.

Glare! This was only an issue when the unit had direct sunlight on it. It was not too bad, but if you don't have tinted windows in your vehicle, it may be worse for you. Adjusting angles seemed to help improve visibility.

Adjusting... Do not try to adjust the unit too much while driving. It is too involved to try, and because the unit is so short, you really have to reach quite a bit to reach all adjustment points. Adjustability is decent, but not great. THe size of the Xoom limits the amount of movement the unit has. a longer arm from suction cup to mount would have been a bit better. But the shortness of the unit seems to add to its stability.

I will post pics and Vid of it being used for the return trip..

All of this posted via Android Tether through my Droid X rooted.I love this thing...

Voice Recognition? I must learn more about this.. ?????

I use it for Navigation on my Droid X everyday.

I put the Droid X in the dock, hit the voice search button and say:

"Navigate to 1214 (twelve fourteen) South 3620 (thirty-six twenty) east Salt Lake City Utah" and it works every time.

Those numbers are just an example, but it is neat how it understands that when you speak twelve fourteen that's 1214.

It is mind boggling to me how well it works.

I just sent mine back yesterday. I wanted to mount it to the passenger side dashboard wood grain trim on my wife's BMW. The wood grain has a slight curve to it so the suction cup would not stick properly.:( That was the only location I wanted to install it. Anywhere else would be to obstrusive..and most likely illegal.

Yeah. The surface has to be flat. Did you try the cup holders? well not sure if thewerbimmers even have them in usable places.
