Home button on my S5 and Google Now

just finished speaking with AT&T rep and they recommend to uninstall update and revert back to original google app or disable s voice or disable google app. i love voice search and this is not a viable option for me so i guess i will have to take his final word of advice, "then you will need to wait for 5.0 for an update to resolve this issue" because i chose not to disable my app.

So far 2 days no problem after removing battery for 10 minutes.... Just waiting for it to reappear cause I can't believe that this easy fix works

I am following this for a hopeful permanent fix as well. I can't believe an upgrade would be rolled out with such an obvious issue!

I've been hitting the button to the left of the home key (the one that shows your recent activity) and then hit home again and it lags a bit then goes to the home screen. I know it isn't a real fix but it keeps me from throwing my phone across the room.

I hope this is fixed sooner rather than later because it's certainly enough to get me away from Samsung as a whole. I loved this phone before this started to happen.

JUST got this phone last week. I'm ready to kick it to the curb and get my iPhone back. Following for updates.

I loved the S4 and my new S5...but this home button issue is infuriating. Have never seriously considered an iPhone until now.

I too have a galaxy s5 and att. I did the upgrade on 2/8/2015 and have also had the same trouble. it's really fustrating.

I think I've found a solution! I saw it on a different thread so I gave it a try, and so far, so good!

Go to Application Manager > All > Google App, then Uninstall Updates. Restart. Hopefully no more annoying home button issues after that!

Hey everybody, this is my first post on the forum.

On my galaxy S5 recently, over half of the time that I want to go home, and i hit the button, it just takes my to google now instead. Is there a way to change this setting?

Thanks

This issue is driving me nuts! I have to press the home button 4 or 5 times to get back to my home screen.

5 days now after removing battery for 10 minutes. Phone works perfectly. No idea why it fixed it but the theory is that it clears out the cache or something. Home button always works single tap now, no Google voice or whatever your long tap was taking u to.

I just came back to android after 4 years of being committed to Apple. I've had the Galaxy s5 active for about a week and this is driving me nuts. Disabling Google fixes it but then I cannot use speech to text because it is powered by Google.

hi. thanks for posting this, but I cant find the sequence you mention. I click the App icon (6 squares) and I see a couple of google apps listed, one with a gear background and the other one is the offending app. If I click the gear one, I dont see the Unistall Updates anywhere. If I click the other one, it goes to the google app home page. could you clarify a bit?

thanks!

J

I have a quick couple of options. The problem obviously goes away if you "unisnstall" the google app from your applications (this really only uninstalls all updates of the Google app and you will still be able to use Google via chrome or any other browser). This permanently fixes it at least until an update comes around that fixes the problem. You can also re install it from the play store. I don't know how permanent this fix is but for me, it's worked so far.

Did this. Still keeps happening. Mainly because the app updates any chance it gets back to what we had before. Disabling Google now doesn't work either. The home button lags and sometimes needs three taps before it will do what it's supposed to.

Boom! From My S5
