Honeycomb Bee Boot Animation

I keep getting told I can't change the name of the file in /system/media folder. Says write only. I am doing this in terminal though so that might be the problem.

You can mount as R/W in an app such as Root explorer.

here is what i did:

1) go to system/media/
2) rename bootanimation.zip bootanimation.bak
3)copy the *NEW* bootanimation.zip to system/media
4)copy the *NEW* bootanimation.zip to /data/local
5)REBOOT!
6)profit??

that worked prefectly for me without a hitch!

you cant do this in terminal unless you change the files system from -ro to -rw let me check the command for you. (be sure to change it back when you are done)

edit:here are the commands from terminal

su
mount -w -o remount /system/media

then when you are done

mount -r -o remount /system/media

i believe that is it, can someone confirm?

thanks,
holsum

For some reason, when I downloaded the file from my Xoom, it just wouldn't work! But when I downloaded to my PC and transferred file to Xoom, it works just fine.

/facepalm

Well at least I have the bootanimation now! :P

Lol very good. I too had issues like that. Sometimes the XOOM or a phone wont fully dl a file even when it said it did.

Thanks

Awesome animation. Worth the root.
Xoom boots faster with your animation too, perceived or actual, who knows.

If you rename the original to .bak and dont load the new one then the xoom actually displays animated text saying "android" in the android font. Pretty cool.

How I discovered the above was exactly the same problem that some if you have had. Using the xoom to download the zip file actually download a corrupt smaller version of the file typically a couple of mb short.

I used esexploer to mount the file system in rw mode, a little buggy but copy and paste worked.

Any chance someone can post a hash of the file it should be 3047240 bytes.

can anyone provide the original boot animation that came with the xoom? for some reason i cant reflash the one that i have.

Did you rename the original to bootanimation.bak? If you did delete your current one and then change the stock back to .zip. If you deleted the stock one or overwritten it you will need to dl the file again. I seen system dumps around that will have all stock files.

Thanks! I do love the stock but they could have done it better. Stock images are half the screen size and then stretched. Mine was created with full screen images so it keeps the image quality. More boots to come :)

Can the 3G with 3.2 be rooted?
