I was just browsing the tech section of news360 on my xoom and I found a REALLY interesting article. It basically says that the app count is so low because over 40% of standard android apps SCALE PERFECTLY on honeycomb so app makers don't have to make their apps tablet specific. That brings the app count to 60,000! Why doesn't Google publish these statistics?

Here's a link to the article.

National : Tablet-optimized Android apps lag because often no optimization is required

Not true, I have some apps that look like *rap. Some work fine and a lot of them are NOT optimized for XOOM tablet.Ones I have on my TBolt are also on my tablet, most of them dont work right.

"a lot of them are NOT optimized for XOOM tablet"

The article said that 40% scaled perfectly not all. The majority don't scale perfectly but if 60,000 do that is really positive news.

Because some of your apps don't run the article isn't true?

There are now well over 200,000 Android apps. They are only claiming that 60,000 of them work on tablets. When you consider that number includes apps made specifically for tablets, that's not even 30% of the standard Android apps. (Still wondering where they got the 40% figure... maybe old app count data)

Of course we will all find standard apps that won't run on a tablet. That doesn't make the 60,000 claim untrue.

I'm in the semiconductor side of the biz and often hear scuttlebutt about directions and plans. That info, and $5 can get you a cup 'o joe, but... I heard that Google originally didn't want to have a tablet apps section in the market. They wanted to say everything worked. Let Apple take a black eye for needing two separate sections. Their hoped the only differences between tablet and phone apps would be scaling and that would take care of itself over time. They were wrong, of course, with all the force closings and unintended degradation of system performance (lagging). When it obviously didn't work out the way they hoped, they had to change course. Hence, the delay we all saw with regards to the introduction of a "Featured Tablet Apps" section.

IMHO, Google still hasn't let go of their original premise. That's why we only see a "Featured" area in Market and not a dedicated expanding repository of all tablet apps.

Yea its incredibly silly not to have a section to download apps just for a tablet. Featured tablet section is fine, but i rather have tablet apps.

Exactly, I use a plethora of apps and they work just fine on my Xoom, sure they don't look as pretty but they work and the backwards compatibility is much better than the one on the iPad...

Most of them suck!!

If your going to post lets post something better. That tapatalk works good on the Xoom. Yes I and most others would like to see more and better apps. They will come with time.

The majority of Xoom apps aren't good IMO... Just because I own a Xoom doesn't mean I have to stretch the truth in order to justify why I purchased the device. Developers need to do better; period! I kept the Xoom hoping things would improve ~ that's why I also purchased a Ipad2 last week (back up plan)... I am happier now! WHAT ONE CAN'T GET RIGHT THE OTHER WILL...

Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk and it's a good app!
