Hopes for S21 Ultra

I never understood not having both.
Pretty much. I guess people grow accustomed to specific things - like typing in passwords like that. I'm enjoying my ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and my face unlock. But I like having more options for unlocking my phone. Just giving me one or limiting me to one (masks) is creepy.

Some growing concern about battery life. 120Mz and 5g are battery chewers and I'm on AT&T which I understand means you can't turn 5g off. I live in a 5g area. With a Note 10+ I don't need to worry about either but the S21 will be using both and to what benefit? I put alot of priority on battery which is why I tried iOS in the first place. I never thought the Samsung phones would regress in battery performance but that's what I'm reading in the other forums. Hell, I might end up with a Pro Max yet!

Why would it be any higher concern than existing models with 120hz and 5G?

If 5g isn't ready for prime time then we shouldn't be forced to use it on AT&T. Where I live we can't get 5g but where I work, yes. Doesn't sound like a good scenario. Fair point on refresh. I can turn that off. I'm also considering the price of the Ultra which may be $200 more than the Pro Max for 256gig. We don't know what the price will be for sure but it's looking very possible the price difference between the 2 phones will be real money. I'm kind of in between about what to do.

My point is that it's not unique to the S21. In any event it's a carrier issue.

Reading up on the Pro Max it looks like your can turn 5g off regardless of carrier. Can anyone verify that. Why would the iPhone be able to do that and not Samsung? I'm on AT&T.

You can on the S20 line. I did on my S20 Ultra and my mom's S20 FE. At least on T-Mobile you can.

I haven't looked into the full details but $1200 is steep for the Ultra if it doesn't include the full functioning Spen until later in the year. Why would you spend all that for the S phone when you can wait until August to get the Note with full functioning Spen and is built into the phone.

I think it’s competitive. It’s $50 more than the iPhone Pro Max 12 but it has the higher refresh. Larger screen and higher resolution. I’m typing on a Pro Max right now that I’ve had for a week and considering returning it for the Ultra.

Well of course an S20 o r S21 is an upgrade to any iPhone but I think the Note is a better value overall. Better to wait until August and get the refined phone. It seems the S has more bugs in it and rough around the edges and then it's smoothed out on the Note a few months later.

I just don't see the point of having the better Spen come out later in the year when you can just buy the Note then.

I’ve got the Note 10 plus and it’s a really good phone. Even after 1.5 years that I’ve owned it. I get that upgrade bugaboo though since I use my phone so much and need a change of pace. Look for trade in pro-mos as they may be too good to pass up. I’m on the Next program which means I pay nothing for a new phone. I may be quitting that however.

I too would *love* a flat screen for the S21 line. I do love my curved screens, especially the one on my S10, but it's too difficult to fit a screen protector - and then to get that screen protector to stay where it's supposed to is another thing entirely.

I like that new flatter screen! The iPhones have a bit of rounding on their screens but never have a problem finding a fully adhesive tempered glass protector them. Hopefully this looks like the same can be possible with this screen.

Nice looking phone. A bit chunky looking but nice. I saw a LaterCase kevlar case for it and think it would work great without adding the bulk a regular case will. Love mine on my N20 and held up very nicely.

I was watching some reviews today of the Pro Max. Alot of dissatisfied iphoners out there. Complaining about the excessive width of the phone. Which is exactly the same as the 7 plus. And face id which doesn't work in the Covid world. Why can't they at least have the pattern opening option? Instead of typing in a six digit code each time. Still they have sold a ton. If they build it, they will come.

My co-worker had HTC phones like me than Samsung. His kid wanted an iphone bad and it was BOGO so he ended up getting the 8 Plus for him and after a while liked it. He switched his mom over to IOS and than just recently he traded up to AT&T for the 12 pro max and got a good deal on a 12 for his wife who still had a galaxy S8. He said when texting his wife while she was on Android it didn't send right away like when he sent it to his kids on iphones. I don't know never had an iphone and don't care too. But he loves it now and he will never go back.

I've been team Android since the Original Evo back when I was with Sprint. I even had a windows phone before that with a slide out keyboard and the screen tilted by HTC my 1st smartphone ever. I hope to really love the Ultra. I know it'll be big for me but if we're not upgrading for a long time I needed the best in specs. I still love the new rumored purple Z Flip coming out.

Wonder if we'll have an option to turn off 5G on our phones with Verizon? Is it a big difference in battery if it has to be left on and your in areas without 5G?

I don't have the option on my unlocked N20U with VZW. My battery is great; I live nowhere near any UWB 5G, and i see switching from 5G to LTE+, to LTE, and even 3G in and around my home area.

My battery lasts from 5:30 am or earlier until 10 at night or later. I've seen at least 8 hours SOT. I probably could go a full 24 hours, but I charge over night so that I am prepared to go the next day without needing to plug in.
