Horrible battery life after latest VZW update

My wife and I each have a G4 and the 13b update has been disastrous on both phones. The battery can't make it past mid-afternoon when before it would easily make it to 11 or 12 at night with 20% left. And the phones get VERY warm. This morning I actually got an overheating warning in the notification bar after using the camera for 10 minutes. Completely ridiculous.

Wow, such differing experiences. I haven't noticed any difference, maybe if I start pushing the phone like during navigation but this has pretty much been a transparent event for me.

I suspect that for the folks who are having heating and drainage issues they didn't have pre-update, it may be that something didn't mesh well with one of your apps during the update process. The behavior you're describing usually seems to be a rogue app of some sort, in my experiences.

I'd look in your battery stats for Keep Awake times that are out of hand. Both for the individual apps, but also in Android System and Android OS battery stats. Sometimes the app giving you a problem isn't doing so in an obvious way. I had a 3rd party Twitter app that was causing Keep Awake issues that were showing up in Android OS and not its own battery info.

Also, definitely try and uninstall updates to Play Services, reboot, and let them auto-update (opening Google Maps will push that process). This seems to have fixed plenty of issues similar to the ones described in this thread.

Good luck.

I am very happy with the last update. Fixed push notification problems with gmail and hangouts. No more overheating, and has vast improvement in battery life. This is the device I was hoping for at release time.

I love the new update, it really did double the battery life. I always felt the g4 had great off screen time but when I was browsing, I was losing a % per minute. Now that is no longer the case and times are much like what my G flex were. Now I don't want the marshmallow update cause they are going to screw it up. ;)

I didn't want to anything at first but now that I've been running on the latest update (13B) for several days, the battery life sucks compared to the previous version I was running (11A). This is all subjective because I don't have 'before & after' usage data but I remember when i first bought the phone, I gave it a full charge (100%) and ran that thing for about a week before I had to charge it again. I was quite impressed. Now I'm having to recharge every 3-4 days. I'm a very light user and don't do a lot of downloading (or surfing for that matter) and my app usage is sparse.

The only thing you have that poor phone doing is powering the cellular antenna and giving "insert carrier here" an excuse to charge you 50 bucks a month.

Agree, since latest update my battery life sucks. I am also a "very" lite user. I try to max. stand-by time - instead of 1% per 3 hours before, now up to 1 or 2% per hour
