This only really happened today, but I'd just like some help from someone, somewhere out there. Basically, I've had my M8 for about 2 years, so it's not fresh off the factory lines, but now, it locks itself and plays my ringtone, like someone's calling me, but every time I check, there's nobody there. This cancels my programs, no matter what I'm using, from YouTube to Spotify. Then, the phone only charges when it is powered off; the charger could be perfectly fine and the outlet working great, and still, it refuses to charge the battery when it is turned on. Further more, it loses its battery at an alarming rate; sometimes at 10% for about 3 minutes, when I'm not even using it and there are no programs on. I'm really just thinking of upgrading to an M9 or something, but if I can fix the problems I have at the moment, then more power to me. Thanks for any kind soul who can help me out here!

My M8 has just started acting up, bluetooth dropping, slow charge on the same charger I always use, notifications going off yet there isn't any, apps slow to respond or not at all, apps crashing and the list goes on. I've had this phone for 2 years and am going back to Samsung, pre ordered a Note 7 today, this phone didn't wow me enough to purchase another HTC, plus the new ones aren't any larger, kind of look the same. I understand manufacturers have their style but this one has become stale.

My short answer would be to upgrade.

At two years, your battery is likely shot. That would explain the rapid discharge and possibly the lack of charging. Sometimes a rogue app can cause excessive battery drain, but 10% in three minutes is extreme even for that. Another common issue resulting in slow/inconsistent charging on the M8 is the USB port itself. That may or may not be your charging problem, but you likely wouldn't be able to find out until you replace the battery. If you're having computer tethering issues as well and you've already tried a new charging cable, then it very well could be the port in addition to the battery. A local shop wanted about US$120 to replace both in my M8, at which point I cut my losses and moved on. Just not worth it in my opinion.
