Hotmail on Samsung Galaxy III

I'm new to this, even to my phone. I have hotmail set-up however, every so often my e-mails are being deleted. They still exist when I look at hotmail on my laptop, however they are gone from my phone.

Can anyone help?

Did you set up hotmail through the hotmail app or through the email app that comes with your phone?
