Just turned on the wifi hotspot using Widgizoid switch, teathered my laptop to the GNEX...

I didnt get any popups or anything from VZ..just keyed in an password for the encryption and it worked.

Will Verizon be aware of this and charge me extra? I have the unlimited data.

tx

No, as long as you don't go crazy and start downloading the all the Rocky movies. Just remember the 5gb magic number. You won't get charged for going over, but it could set off a red light that something fishy is going on.

great, tx. I won't download any movie or even watch youtube...I'm pretty boring...just general web surfing and e-mail. I hate using public hotspots when I travel..not very secure at all .

So if we decide to use the GNex in the future as a computer console are we going to have to pay for that too? Like I said, it's like having to pay for gps.

The technology is always changing, remember when video subscription was $15 a month?

It's a sad day when integrity means patsy. Sigh.

How is that integrity? Because you bend over kindly when the carrier tries to rape you? You do realize that paying for tethering is paying twice for each MB of data, right? The biggest ripoff in the industry after SMS costs.

I've never paid and never will pay for tethering. I buy the phone, pay for the plan (on time, every month, for years), and use my data. Call me a crook!

I read your original post before you edited it in the time frame allowed without a notation that you edited it. So I will respond to what I read.

You obviously have never read the VZW contract and therefore you assume to use the GNex as it was designed is stealing. You are ignorant of both the law and the contract you entered into.

Stop spreading misinformation. If you don't know what the contract states and are too ignorant of the law to know how to interpret it then shut up.

You are not a man of integrity, you are ignorant. And your ignorance costs you and your family money.

Whoa don't know bout that, but it carried over from my bolt days. Plus I get a corporate discount so it's really not that much....

hey, sorry I even started this thread. I didn't expect it to be a flame war about morality.

FYI, I don't like VZ's tethering policy, but no one is being "raped" here. As far as stealing, if you think that tethering your phone is a high crime or misdemeanor, don't do it.

I tethered for about a month and a half used about 40 gigs in that time frame before I got my own internet. Never got a warning or charged .

There is no way that VZW doesn't know the GNex can tether without activating the MHS feature. If VZW wanted to, they could stop this, but they don't. They obviously think it is a good business decision to allow this, so they do.

You would have to be naive and stupid to think that VZW doesn't know this is going on. And it really burns my a$$ when someone gets all holier-than-thou about a business decision made by VZW as if VZW is a child being taken advantage of. I pay VZW almost $2400 a year for 2 smartphone lines with only 700 peak minutes. Who is the one being taken advantage of here?

If ATT can detect tethering and cut people off who do it, then VZW can, too. BUT THEY CHOSE NOT TO. No one is taking advantage of VZW.
