how can I be sure my data is gone?

I did a factory reset and wiped the data on my Droid X, in preparation to sell it. When it boots, it wants to make an activation call, and that appears to be my only option. How can I tell that my old # and contacts are really gone? I can't get past the "activate" step?

I think if you tap all 4 corners it will bipass the activation call.

yeah just tap each corner one by one in clockwise order.
