How can I convince my mother to run cleanup? Her phone is out of free space, it's red, only some MBs left, because she has a lot of videos and photos kept. Even Google photos offers excellent feature to clean up the phone, because all videos and photos are saved in cloud and she still can browse them whenever she pleases, she still refuses to do this, because she's afraid maybe she won't have Internet and will decide to watch videos and she just wants to have all these videos and photos. I'm trying to tell her that it's not normal for phone or any system to run out of space and leave like that, but she says: "what gonna happen?". I don't know how to convince her otherwise. Can I tell her anything to convince her? Can phone can be harmed if she continues to use her phone like that?

What phone does she have? Does she have any of her data backed up elsewhere like on a hard drive if she's not using any cloud service? Does her phone have an SD card slot?

it will not harm the phone but it could eventually cause space errors if needing to download something, the phone is needing uipdating, take pictures or more.

what phone model and does it have a sd card slot?

That's a great idea. A micro SD card would be a great way to free up space yet ensure that her photos and videos are backed up to a safe place.

Guys, she has Redmi 6 and she has 64GB internal space. She takes a lot of photos and videos. I'm not sure, but most likely her phone has SD card slot too. Sure, I could buy SD card for her, but she will fill it too, it's just a matter of time. So, I don't think it's a solution, plus 64GB is already a lot storage. I already explained her that all her videos and photos are securely stored in cloud, but she insists to have her photos and videos locally in her phone, because she doesn't have Internet all the time in her phone and she would like to watch her videos and photos.

That is a good reason for her to free up space. I'll tell her that if she doesn't clean up space, she won't be able to take more videos and photos. Hope she listens to me (but I doubt lol).

There's only so much you can do. Another approach would be to back up the photos and videos regularly to a computer hard drive, and let her know she can always view them on the computer.

An SD card is a good idea. Yes, she can eventually fill it. However, running out of space on the SD card causes no OS problems, while running out of space on the internal storage is a bad thing from the OS perspective.

Most camera apps these days let you choose the SD card as their default storage.

If she won't listen, leave her alone. The phone may slow down, storage space will be nil - may be at that point she will seek your help.

Also, everything in phone storage can be lost in a moment in the event of hardware failure or accidental loss or damage.

The Redmi 6 does support expansion, which is good. Move everything to a micro SD card. It will take a while but do it in moderation. Then, go into the camera settings and chose save to external card/ memory instead of phone. This way when she takes photos, it won't stay in the phones storage and it will keep the phone "clean" for apps, etc.
