How can I fix my Android OS battery drain after 5.1.1 update?

Instead of disabling the SIM, you could turn on Airplane Mode, which turns off the cell radio. When Airplane Mode is on, you can still turn on wi-fi.

I've decided on flashing the stock firmware using Smart Switch. I will update you if the problem continues after the recovery. Thanks :D

UPDATE: i reinstalled the firmware using smart switch and everything seems normal for now. I will report back if the same issue occurs again.

Hi devendra- did the firmware reinstall finally solve the issue completely? I'm facing the exact same issue as yours

Yes! The factory reset helped. I used smart switch to backup all of my data first. But you can use that or Kies.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no fix to the infamous battery drain problem inflicted on everyone by Google. They caused this with their "updates" and is either intentional or a bug. I say intentional because all Google wants is your personal info and habits so they can sell it. Look it up, this is how they make their money. If that requires an undocumented app in the background to collect and transmit any time they want, they will do it. My nexus 7 tablet started the battery drain after the "update" and now drops 3% an hour EVEN TURNED OFF! Even off there is WiFi activity. This makes the tablet unusable. I have disconnected the battery.
A lot of "experts" waste our time saying "Check for a misbehaving 3rd party app". LOL. It's the Google Andriod OS that's doing this. And turn off your favorite stuff? Why? To save the battery for the bug ridden OS? The bottom line is that Google caused this, it's their fault and we can't fix it. And it doesn't seem like they want to fix it (hence intentional). I am not, nor want to be, a beta tester for their software. When you get tired of all the excuses and garbage, DUMP GOOGLE, and meet me over at Apple.

I happen to concur with your analysis......i am hoping it's a bug but my gut instinct tells me that this battery drain disaster is intentional
Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony etc etc are obsessed to the point of being delusional in being able to collect as much data they can off their consumers because it makes them money through ads revenue
Also by sending down these OTA updates which practically make your ph useless, it forces the consumer to keep upgrading to the next best thing that they are pushing
I am truly disgusted and appalled at the direction these companies are going and if it keeps up i will be abandoning ship over to Apple

Re: Android OS battery drain after 5.1.1 update

That's not at all what is happening, google just releases software early for you to download at your own risk. They do use your personal data but not for the reason you think. They use it for cool stuff, and you can always turn the data collection off in the settings. Google even explains the process behind the data collection and analysis. Everyone does it. Google just has the heart to tell us they do it and let us opt not to let them do it.

Re: Android OS battery drain after 5.1.1 update

Its a wifi bug in the android os. When im at work i turned off the wifi and never had this problem again. when im at home i have wifi on and the phone didnt drain like before. It has to be something with certain wireless routers and their configuration.

Got a similar problem with Nexus 5, frustrating lollipop update 5.1.1, baterry drains in near about 4 -5 hours 100% to 20%.

Re: Android OS battery drain after 5.1.1 update

This post actually helped me a lot. I went into settings and deselected the option to let Google give away browsing history to ads. The Android OS was using 8% battery, but now it uses 6%. It's a start and hopefully my Nexus 7 will last longer than 4 hours.
