How can I get a more accurate step count on my Samsung Gear watch?

i have a samsung gear watch and it counts steps when i move my arm. i put it on my ankle as i wanted a more accurate count but it didn't count any steps. anyone have any idea why it didn't count?

It has to do with how steps are recognized. The gear is designed to be used on the hand. There are foot pedometers, if that is what you are looking for
