How can I get my Note 3 to connect to 802.11ac wifi?

note 3 wont connect to 802.11ac wifi

whenever i put in the password for my 5GHz wifi connection i always get "saved, secured" but im never actually able to connect properly. whenever i set my router to broadcast 802.11 a/n/ac it will connect fine but when its set to 802.11ac it wont. why is this?

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Wi-fi​, tap Menu>Advanced, and see if there is an option for Wi-fi Frequency Band.
