OK Google Issue

I have noticed the ability to use "OK Google" is very unreliable. If it doesn't work now, I can go in and just futz around with the settings until it works again but a short time later, I'll be back to it not working again. I'm specifically referring to the ability to say "ok Google" from any screen. Even though it's turned on, it doesn't seem to matter. ??

I get the same thing.

I tried to search around, but couldn't find any sort of resolution. Kind of frustrating, as I don't use it often, but when I do, it doesn't work...

Re: OK Google Issue

I guess for now I'll just learn to tap the microphone but I hate when stuff doesn't work right.

Re: OK Google Issue

Don't you just love patches that actually BREAK the app? (not so much)

P.S. That did the trick. Thanks!

Its odd that updates break things

Re: OK Google Issue

So, uninstalling the update will resolve this and allow it to work while the screen is off and locked too?

I don't want to have to press the microphone or anything on the search bar, as it's no longer on any screen of my phone.

Yes uninstalling updates to the google app makes it work again. But it won't work with the screen off unless its plugged in to the charger. That's how most phones are. Moto x is the only phone I know of that responds while screen is off and not charging, unless nexus does it now too.

To clarify: ok google will work from the lock screen, but you do have to wake the display with a double tap. Unless it's charging.

Re: OK Google Issue

Had to uninstall the updates to my mom's today and then I updated it again and it still worked. Something happened with the last update.

I can confirm this is not true. It has not been updated since October 22nd and the problem still persists. Recent reviews in the play store reflect this as well.

Well I can confirm that uinstalling the updates and going back to Google Play updating again, fixed the issue. I did it myself.

Seems the same thing worked for several above in this thread also.

Nobody in this thread said that they re-updated the app and it works. Nobody in the play store either. So I guess you're just lucky.

Oh I see that one that uninstalled the app, didn't update it again.

So what is your argument?

I uninstalled the updates and her phone, updated in Google Play again and she set up your again and it worked.

Hers has not worked since the last update and clearing cache and data did not help and this is what I did.

So, what is your issue here? I said that is what I did for my mom's phone and it worked and you want to argue with me about the phone I held in my own hands and did this to. I never said this will fix your phone.

You don't have to believe my experience, but I'm not going to argue my experience with you since I know exactly what I did and you weren't there.

YMMV

I mostly use OK Google when I'm driving in my car, to make phone calls etc. The other day I noticed that the command is no longer being recognized on any regular basis. In other words, it works sporadically. I don't know what happened. I don't know how to fix this. Can anyone help? I've tried restarting the Google app. I've tried deleting updates. I'm a paraplegic, so I drive with hand controls and can not take my hand off the steering wheel in order to press a button on my phone. the OK Google is a MUST for me...and I NEED help fixing it.

Re: OK Google Issue

After updating again from Gplay store still doesnt work
The only solution i said it up there for people is to delete there latest update
