My phone just bricked today. Don't know why. It was plugged in to the power recharger (USB cable), then it wouldn't work and when I rebooted it, it gets stuck on the AT&T logo and won't go any further.

I rebooted it again. Nothing.

I cleared the cache from getting in to the Android mode. Still bricked at the AT&T logo.

I have Smart Switch and I backed up the phone up to last week. But to reset to factory settings, then connect to the Smart Switch, I need to get the IMEI number, which I cannot get to right now because the phone is bricked.

How can I get the IMEI number while this phone is bricked?

If your device was listed in Samsung's findmymobile you might be able to get it from there from the three dot menu.Screenshot_20201028-201806_Chrome.jpeg

I don't think I have findmymobile.

I did take the battery out and it looks like the IMEI number is on the phone (behind the battery). My bad, I should have looked further.

I thought of suggesting that but most phones don't have a removable back

Happy you got it.. I was thinking your carrier account would have the IMEI Of device when viewing online...

Re: How can I get the IMEI number from a bricked S3?

I specifically did *NOT* upgrade to a newer phone (Samsung or whatever other make) because this particular model allows me to remove the back and replace the battery. That means that if the battery gets weak and starts bloating (like most lithium batteries do), I can just replace the battery without having to have it serviced by AT&T or Samsung.

You're correct but eventually you would have had to update as more and more apps become incompatible and your device becomes less secure.
