How come my HTC one m8 syncs photos from the internet and from video apps I.e. BBC iPlayer to my phone? It takes up a lot of storage and its a hassle to keep deleting hundreds of photos each week.

How can I stop this?

What service are you using to sync the pictures? Most apps let you select specific folders or sync only camera pictures, but some others might have an option to automatically upload any media file it finds (I think Photos does this with a general switch, but you can turn it off and go to a per-folder basis).

If the apps, however, are downloading pictures to your phone, then that's on each app's dev to answer for.
