How can I make a ZTE N9511 work with Cricket service?

ZTE N9511 on old cricket service

I was given a Cricket ZTE N9511 and I want to use it on my Cricket service. In the process of trying to activate this phone with the Cricket Carrier I was told that this phone is missing 1 digit from the MEID. and there for it is unable to be used on the "New" cricket service. What can I do to make this phone work with cricket?

Around July, 2013, Cricket started the switchover from using a CDMA network to using a GSM network. (The switchover is supposed to be complete by March, 2015, but it's pretty well done now.) Your phone is a CDMA phone, it won't work on a GSM network. (It would be like watching the picture on a hearing aid - they're just totally different technologies.) That's probably why you got the phone - the owner got a GSM phone and had the ZTE Source lying in a drawer useless.

You probably can't use it on any of Sprint's or Verizon's network operators either (like Straight Talk, Virgin, etc.) because they require that the carrier (Sprint or Verizon) approve the particular handset. (And it's a bit of work making a Cricket handset work on another carrier - it would cost more in labor than buying a new GSM phone with the same specs.)
