play netflix from samsung s4 to car dvd player

I want to stream my netflix from my samsung s4 to my car dvd player since I have unlimited data plan. i have purchased a hdmi/rca cable and a samsung mhl cable. I have audio but no video. What am I missing? Do I need an auxilary cable and if so where would it go in the schematics of these cables?

Welcome to Android Central! I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I strongly recommend against trying to watch movies on your dash screen. First, it's unsafe, even if it's just intended for passengers. The driver may still find it difficult not to be distracted by the video image. Second, if a police officer saw that there was a video playing, you'd probably be cited.

Ok, I've given my annoying lecture, so I'll let others comment on any possible solutions.:p

Is there some issue with your DVD Player? They might not necessarily recognize the audio file’s codec correctly. First, find out what formats are your DVD Player support, and then perhaps you would like to consider turning DVD into its playable videos.

Not sure which adapter cable you have, but mine requires external power. If your adapter has a std usb plug as well as the hdmi & micro-usb plugs, it must be connected to power. When you connect it all up, you'll get the phone's screen mirrored on the dvd screen.

Android Central,
Please re-read the question. He did not say that his dvd player was in the dash. I would like to know the answer so please reply.

Welcome to Android Central! You're right -- now that I re-read the question (1.5 years later;)), I can see that the OP was probably talking about a player in the back of the car. But I have seen a number of posts here about people trying to hack their in-dash players, so that's probably why I responded that way.
