how can i prevent apps set to manual update from reverting back to auto?

i have many apps for which i have disabled auto update, but they keep changing back to auto update by themselves. why is this happening and how can i prevent it? i have searched this using various terms and can find nothing. this is 7.0 if it makes any difference. thanks!

There is nothing you can do to fix the bad behavior of the app.
Using the contact info on the Google Play page, send the programmers an email letting them know there is a problem.

hi, ManiacJoe. thanks for the reply. i see what you're saying, but it is not 'an' app--or a couple or few--it is pretty much every one that i have set to not auto-update, so i don't believe it is an app problem, i believe it is something else...

Which phone?
Which exact version of android?
Which carrier?

Back when I was running android 7.x, in the Google Play app settings, setting the auto-update apps to "do not" worked just fine. I still run my android 8.x phone that way.
