How can I record video over 4GB in size?

Hello all. I am using my phone to record the messages at my church. We are a small church, and don't have the budget for a dedicated camera right now. I am saving to the SD card, as I don't have enough space on internal memory. My SD card is formatted as exFAT. I am recording in HD (720). This is really the lowest quality I can go to. I get about 45-46 minutes of recording, and then it starts a new recording. The problem is that there is a 5-10 second gap in the recordings. Has anyone figured out a way around the 4GB size limit? I have also tried a couple of different camera apps, and it seems they have the same limit. I've seen some tutorials on formatting your SD card to work as internal memory. Do you think that would work? I don't know if the 4GB file size is limited to just the SD card, or if it is system wide.

Unfortunately, without rooting and installing a camera mod, you are limited on recording time. I just tried recording a 4K video and the limit is 10 min - file size was almost 4GB.

It's the file format on the card. The exfat is limited to 4GB file sizes. You are able to save to internal memory to get past the limit.

From what source you get that info? FAT32 is limited to 4GB, but exFAT can store single file up to 16EB (exabites) size.

And yes, I'm getting the same problem here. Micro SD with exFAT formatted should get past this 4 GB limitation. Any solutions can fix this issue (beside using internal storage)??

Welcome to Android Central! Some of the Ambassadors and I have discussed this issue amongst ourselves in the past. The consensus was that it's likely a software limitation, probably due to some legacy code that limits the filesize to 4 GB, even if the filesystem is exFAT or ext4. We don't have any hard evidence of this, but it's what's been observed pretty much universally.
